PHUKET: -- Karon Police are looking for a jet-ski rental operator at Kata Beach who yesterday allegedly swung an anchor at the head of a German tourist.

When contacted by the Phuket Gazette, Karon Police Superintendent Sirisak Wasasiri today said he had yet to be informed of the incident.

“I have not received a report about this. I will assign officers to question the beach vendors,” Col Sirisak said.

A witness to the incident explained to the Gazette that the jet-ski operator had mounted his jet-skis onto a trailer and was towing them off the beach just before sundown when the wheels of the trailer ran over the German man’s belongings on the sand.

“The German man had his sunglasses and a few other things damaged, but all he wanted was for the jet-ski operator to pay for the broken motorbike helmet, which belonged to a rental shop,” the witness said.

“The beach boy refused and they had an argument… After a while, the German man gave up and started walking away, but the boy picked up a small anchor from the trailer and ran after the German man,” he added.

“It wasn’t until a woman saw what was happening and screamed, that the German man looked back and saw the boy coming at him with the anchor. The German started running at the same time the boy swung the anchor at him. The anchor missed his head by about half a meter,” said the witness.

The German ran down onto the beach, and the jet-ski operator gave chase. “When the boy realized that everyone on the beach was staring at him, he turned and walked away,” he added.

Meanwhile, Col Sirisak has appealed to anyone who may be able to identify the jet-ski operator to contact the Karon Police.

“Anyone who saw the incident can contact Karon Police Station at 076-333362,” Col Sirisak said.

“If anyone knows the German man, please tell him to come to Karon Police Station and report the incident,” he added.

So it's not just foreigners that are still ruining Phuket's reputation? I thought we were always to blame. It probably was the German guys fault for leaving his stuff on the beach, instead of renting a chair!

make me laugh

dont they realise the tourist is there food line

We're not simply food, we're a buffet. There are so many of us on their plate they can afford to spit out what they don't like and still get their fill.

Unfortunately that's what a lot of US don't realise.

Jet Ski Operater + BIB,I wouldn't think they will be searching for the offender too hard!

But of course they are. They do a joint search with tuk-tuk drivers.

Remember this?

Another 800 people, including walkie-talkie volunteers, jet-ski operators, tuk-tuk and limousine drivers, and hotel representatives also joined the event.

Sure, it was German guy fault that he didn't gave all his money and excuses to poor jet-ski boy.

Lets see, it took the Police 7 years to find an infamous person who was mostly staying at his own house and attending international hospitals in public, and he was wanted for involvement in murder and corruption, so I am guessing a simple beach boy would be impossible within 15 years to find

So... which is it? Police are looking for someone? Or Police have not heard about the incident? The reporting is often as bad as the policing!

I thought the two were interchangeable... policing and reporting that is.

Anchor-wielding jet ski operator wanted by Phuket police

Nattha Thepbamrung

PHUKET: -- Police are on the hunt for an anchor-wielding jet ski operator who allegedly swung the heavy anchor at a German tourist, narrowly missing his head.

Karon Police Pol Lt Sathaporn Seenun told The Phuket News that the trouble began around 6pm on Monday at Kata beach, when the jet ski operator finished work for the day.

He was dragging his jet ski from the sea and put it on a trailer. He then drove the car away with the trailer attacked, and the wheels of the trailer allegedly drove over the German tourist’s belongings, including a helmet the tourist was renting for a motorbike.

Police said the German tourist then approached the jet ski operator, asking him to compensate for the broken helmet.

Unable to come to an agreement, the German man then started to walk away, when he saw the jet ski operator chasing him down the beach with an anchor in his hand. The man swung the anchor at the German, narrowly missing his head.

The chase ended when the jet ski operator realised his actions had been seen by people on the beach, and he ran away.

A witness told police the jet ski operator was Thai, tanned, and of large build. He also gave details of how the attack happened.

Anyone who has details of the attack should call Karon Police Station on 076-396-393 or Lt Sathaporn on 086-071-8468.

Perhaps the police can tell us in advance what will happen to the jetski boy and operator if witnesses decide to come forward and confirm the story? If it is the usual case of no prosecution whatsoever, then why should anyone waste their time informing the police and risk getting attacked afterwards?
