PATTAYA: -- The World Record for the longest continuous kiss has been broken here in Pattaya once again! newsjsAt the Royal Garden Plaza in South Pattaya a world record attempt had been organized to celebrate Valentine’s Day and required couples to engage in a continuous kiss for more than 50 hours 25 minutes and 1 second which was the previous record set in 2012 at the same venue. 9 couples, who had to prove they were genuine married couples or were in long-standing relationships, puckered-up and attempted to break the record. They were not permitted to sleep or sit down and had to be escorted to the toilet by officials who had to ensure their lips remain connected at all times. Hospital security guard Ekkachai Tiranarat, 44, and 33-year-old housewife Laksana locked lips for 58 hours, 35 minutes and 58 seconds, smashing last year's Guinness World Record by more than eight hours. The romance of the clinch may have been marred by competition rules requiring contestants to remain on their feet throughout, slurp food and liquids through a straw and even go to the toilet while continuing to press their lips together. "They were very exhausted because they did not sleep for two-and-a-half days, they had to stand all the time so they were very weak," Sompron Naksuetrong, vice president of event organiser Ripley's Believe It or Not!, told AFP. The "kissathon" ended shortly before midnight on Valentine's Day, with the male couple who won last year unable to maintain their smooch, collapsing just two minutes before Ekkachai and Laksana. The pair won 100,000 baht ($3,300) cash and two diamond rings. Ekkachai Tiranarat, 44, and his wife Laksana, 33, received a cash reward of Bt100,000 and two diamond rings worth about Bt200,000 each for pulling off the world’s longest continuous kiss completed at 11:15 pm (1615 GMT) Thursday. The kissing contest was organised by the Ripley’s Believe It or Not musueum in Pattaya, around 100 kilometres south-east of Bangkok, to commemorate Valentine’s Day. At last year’s contest a gay couple set the world’s record with a canoodle lasting 50 hours, 25 minutes and 1 second. Under the rules of the contest, contestants must keep continuous lip contact, including during bathroom breaks.
