AshaDarville
Hi, I am an Australian Medical Student. I am 20 years old (will be 21 at time of travel). I have organised an elective placement in a Thai hospital for 9 weeks. I was wondering a few things: -9 weeks is longer than the 60 days that I have seen mentioned as the longest usual visa class, so is there a way to get around this or should I just leave a few days early? -If I am 'working' (ie I'm not a tourist) do I have to get a work permit even though I'm not earning money? -How do I go about getting special visas or a work permit if this is the case, and how far ahead of time should I do this (my trip starts in July)? Thanks Asha
dr_Pat_Pong
You need a Non Immigrant Visa B because you will be working. Go to a Thai Consulate in Australia with a letter from the placement hospital evidencing your program. What state of Australia are you in ? AshaDarville
I am in tasmania (where I'm fairly sure there is not Thai consulate). Also I have been communicating with the hospital almost entirely by email. Will an email confirmation be enough or should I get them to send me a letter? Thanks for responding by the way!! dr_Pat_Pong
There is no Thai office in Tasmania. Contact Brisbane and use Express Mail each way [email protected] I think email note from the hospital will be fine there.
