News_Editor
Malaysian authorities have rescued at least 136 boat refugees who are believed to be Rohingya Muslims fleeing inter-communal violence in western Burma, the Manila Times reports. It is the eleventh time this year that Malaysian authorities have picked up a boat with Rohingya refugees, Tan Kok Kwee of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said, adding that the boats typically carried between 120 and 240 people. The latest group was intercepted in Malaysia’s northern Penang State on Sunday and included 96 adults and 40 children, some of which were less than 10 years old. They told authorities that they had been at sea for 25 days and had run out of food and water. Source: Irrawaddy.org
