PHUKET: The two survivors from the March 20 boarding house shootout, in which two others were shot dead, are recovering, police say, but are not yet well enough the tell police what happened in the house in Sam Kong.

Tourist Police officer, Sen Sgt Maj Pinchai Piyadilok, was charged on March 21, as a “precautionary measure” with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

He, too, was wounded in the shooting, and is currently in hospital in Haad Yai where his leg was amputated blow the knee.

Sgt Maj Pinchai’s wife Warankana Wichien said, “Right now, he is recovering from the amputation. He is not available to talk with the media but he has been greatly encouraged by visits from relatives and friends.

“I do not know when he will get out of the hospital because he is waiting for doctors to graft skin [over the stump of his leg].

Meanwhile, the other survivor of the mayhem, Natthapong Keawkuanchum, 25, has been operated on at Vachira Phuket Hospital, to repair bullet wounds to his stomach.

A hospital official said, “Mr Natthapong was operated on on March 20. At the moment he cannot eat but he is recovering now.”

Muang Phuket Police SuperintendentSermphan Sirikongtold The Phuket News, “We have already collected evidence from the crime scene. We have also talked with both of the wounded men, but neither were in a condition for full interviews with investigators.

“[Mr Natthapong] appears not to remember very well; he seems confused and nervous when investigators ask him about what happened.

“We asked him what the shooter looked like but he seemed confused and his descriptions varied from one time to the next. I do not want put too much pressure on him right now.

“Sgt Maj Pinchai does not want to talk at the moment. But we will continue to visit them both until they are well enough to talk.”

Oh Dear sad To Hear it don't look like the Police Seargent will have a leg to stand on when he's

In court

Sorry to hear two people died gun crime is on the rise

Same all over the world hope they manage to sort this sad affair out

I wouldn't worry, he will be capable of groveling in Thai fashion, (The way they do when presented with authority - Prostrate and mimicking a sea creature out of water) across the floor like a Sea Lion with his hands in a Wai begging forgiveness, his stump shouldn't hinder his progress as he does a "Full Flipper" across the floor to beg for mercy! One can only hope that it receives a boot on its head to crush it like a cockroach!

Tourist cop charged with murder after Phuket shootout

Tanyaluk Sakoot

PHUKET: Tourist police officer, Sen Sgt Maj Pinchai Piyadilok, was today (March 20) charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder after two people were shot dead and another seriously injured in a shootout earlier in the day.

Called to the scene in a boarding house in Sam Kong, Phuket Town, police found 25-year-old Chalermpon Tripak dead on the bed in his room with one shot in the stomach.

Lying dead in a bloody heap next to the door was 25-year-old Saran Chaiyatham, shot in the left side of his chest. (See earlier story here).

Still alive on the bed, but also with a stomach wound, lay Natthapong Keawkuanchum, 25.

The investigators checked the area and found two 9mm bullets and two spent cartridges on the floor of the room, along with a large amount of kratom leaves and drug paraphernalia.

There was also a pool of blood outside the door.

Warankana Wichien, who rents a room in the same building, told police that her husband, 40-year-old Tourist Police Sen Sgt Maj Pinchai Piyadilok, had been shot twice in the right leg, but had already been taken to hospital.

She said that her husband developed the suspicion that the room was being used by drug users, and walked in.

His wife, hearing gunfire, run to see what was happening, and saw her husband slumped outside the room, bleeding. He was taken to hospital and has since been transferred to Haad Yai for repair of a severed femoral artery.

Phuket Police Chief Gen Choti Chavalviwat told The Phuket News that although all the details were not yet clear, SSM Pichai’s gun was the only one found at the scene, indicating he had fired the fatal shots.

Gen Choti added his assurance that all those involved would receive equal treatment and consideration.
