My seals are okay on my CBR250. What's the story with just getting them to change the oil and put the old seals back on, good idea or bad?

i've changed oil a few times on USD forks just by taking them out and turning them upside down to drain the oil.. give them a few pumps to get as much of the old oil out.

Good idea to measure how much oil comes out so put the same back in.

on another note, why does Crf have different levels for each fork ?

I've only done 500Ks so the seals should be ok, I'll see how they go.

I've had 2 friends who have also had the forks leak, only things we can think of is bad seal design, to much oil in there or we are to fat. All offroad riding.

My guess is cheap seal design as this problem isnt going away and honda doesnt want to warranty it in pattaya.

  • 5 months later...

I've done 1200k on mine and the left seal blew out big time. Honda in Korat didn't want to know about it. I wouldn't let any of the Honda monkeys loose on my bikes anyway. (burnt too many times now) I've since replaced the seal but I do have a question:

My left fork was the one without the spring, I fitted an aftermarket spring from the US and deducted the same volume in oil. The beginning thread said the right fork with the spring as standard ought to have 658cm cubed which is 0.658l. Would this now be the same for the left fork which has a spring fitted?

May be worth trying thumpertalk.com

They would probably have quite a few guys in the know on those boards.

For longevity, I wouldn't rule out a fork swap.

The design its self (SFF) isn't badly flawed to my knowledge - used in pro mx for example.

But, in this case as was mentioned, I am certain on a bike in this category that it was a price saver.

While not the cheapest mod - who doesn't love plush suspension!
