There are Thai military maps available in 1:50,000 scale somewhere, but check these out:

http://www.nexus.net/~911gfx/sea-ao.html

They are available from the Thai Army Map shop in Bangkok (Tel.02-222 8844 a couple of years ago), they have an index as the whole country is 41 sheets , ask for the series L. Some sensitive areas like at the Burmese border are "out of stock". Under B100 per map. Korat is #5438 I,II,III and IV. If there have been any new roads built they will not appear on this series.

Harri. Korat.

Look at the nexus site above. One of their maps covers the area - a few years ago though

TRYING TO LOCATE A MAP OF MUKDAHAN. On a visit 5 months back, noticed an elaborate multi level building purporting to be VISITORS INFORMATION CENTRE. Had some difficulty in making myself understood, but after visiting most of the shops in the building, got the understanding THEY HAD GONE.

Next stop the magnificient VIEWING TOWER. At the entrance level was an information counter, they had no maps but level 4 had them. Up to level 4 and was told they have never had them. Have searched several places on the net, without luck. Can anyone help please.???

WITH THE PROBABLE INCREASE IN TOURISTS WITH THE SAVANAKET BRIDGE OPERATING, SOMEONE IS MISSING OUT ON A PUBLICITY SPONSORED ITEM.

THANKS VINCE

Does anyone know if it is possible to get big scale maps of local areas here?

Presumably the highways departments and the 'amphoe' officers must have them, but will they sell copies and who does one ask?

I would like to know if you have had any success in getting these maps. I am also after large scale maps of the area between Mukdahan and Ubon along Route 212. I am particularly interested in the area around Loeng Nok Tha, about half way between Amnat Charoen and Mukdahan. I worked there in 1967-68 on the construction of the airfield and a rural development road. I would also be interested in making email contact with people who are currently living in the area or are familiar with it. This includes any Brit or Australian Sappers or others who worked on the airfield/road.

TRY GOOGLE EARTH, COMES IN VERY WELL IN THAT AREA, PIN POINT MAKHOM KAM SOI AND SCROLL FROM THERE. GOOD LUCK VINCE TTL

This is by far the best on-line map I've found so far. It goes down to 100m guage, shows all sorts of info, hotels/bars/seven elevens/bars/nosh shops/bars/nightclubs/bars/and if your fav bars not mentioned tell them and they will put it on.
