PM has kicked off his idea on boosting tourism with Naresuan film

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has come up with an idea to stimulate tourism in Kanchanaburi Province by using “Naresuan (นเรศวร)”, an epic film being directed by Mom Chao Chatri Chalermyukol (หม่อมเจ้าชาตรี เฉลิมยุคล). The premier aims at drawing more foreign tourists to visit Thailand by using this motion picture to film the beautiful sceneries of the country.

This afternoon, the premier visited Fort Surasri (สุรสีห์) in Kanchanaburi Province, the location for shooting “Naresuan” movie. During his visiting, he said that he will help promote the place to tourists, while developing and restoring the area in order to impress the visitors.

He said that if the film becomes popular among foreigners, the shooting locations will lure them to visit the sites as well. He said that he will invite MC Chatri to help develop the historical places as he is a specialist in the history of Thailand.

Kan, BTW, attracts more Thai Tourists that Non Thai Tourists and since this is part of “their” history (Naresuan film) I, for one welcome this attraction for both Thai and Non Thai Tourists.

As for more Resorts to be built in Kan, welcome, as if we need more empty Resorts here. :o

Yours truly, :D

2006 - 2007 is also the OFFICIAL "Visit Kanchanaburi" tourist promotion. It's a TAT drive to help promote the area.

There's banners and signs all over town advertising, although I think it's as much aimed at Thai tourists as much as foreigners!
