Travel2003
Not sure if this is the right Forum, so please move if needed. Went out yesterday, and during the evening I had a Sambuca. We (in the bar) started to talk about it and what it contained. When someone managed to translate what Anise and Licorice were, nobody knew. Even translated to Thai, nobody knew. When trying to explain about licorice sweets, etc, again nobody had any idea. My question is: Isn't this available on the marked in Thailand, for Thais? If not, is it something Thais do not like? Travel2003
Used to love that stuff. I really wonder why Thais seem to not know what it is, since it seems to be a universal sweet for all kids in the world. Is it a taste which the peoples pallets here dont like? xen
I am addicted to both anise and licorice . I regularly drink licorice root herbal tea and Pernod and orange juice would be number one on the request list for my last meal. chocolate covered aniseed rings, chocolate bullets . The list goes on. And my taste buds go into overdrive when i go to Hua Lamphong Railway station and smell that Southern Thai anise and beef dish that fills the air when you get out of the cab. Wonderful stuff.. lopburi3
If like my wife they just do not like the smell. It is very hard to find at all but Foodland does stock several German package imports. Tops advertised an exclusive collection at one of the upscale malls last week (with prices to match).

Pernod with orange juice, yuk, I would only drink Pernod with Coke. O/T, do you have problems with getting Pernod in a bar in Thailand? The usual conversation for this goes something like: Me: “Pernod and Coke please”. Bar serve: “No hab”. Me: “Yes you have, I can see it”. Bar serve: “No mister, no hab”. Me: “Look that bottle there”. Bar serve: “No, no, this per-nod”. Me: “Yes the d is silent it is pronounced Per-no”. Bar serve: OK Hab. Next bar: Me: “Pernod and Coke please”. Bar serve: “No hab”. Me: “OK, just give me a per-nod and Coke instead please”.

Backwoods
I want Twizzlers!!! I have several items imported every couple months and though expensive, I love the pull and peel twizzlers in strawberry, cherry, and cinnomon. I have learned if you can't find it here, pay the toll and Amazon the hell out of it!
dj1972
Only find sweet licorice here, I want the salty stuff. I found good Danish salty licorice today. Haribo Piratos in Villa Market in Phuket. The Thai people really hate salty licorice. They think it is poison.
