I predict this is just the start of a new crackdown on all those hard core criminals such as the subject of this story! No more will his ilk be able to inspire terror in the hearts of the jet ski, tuk tuk, (fill in appropriate scam) community! Thailand will soon be the hub of victimless crime surpression!!!!

What is 'living illegally' ? Was he a squatter ?

From my point of view he did not anything wrong, just a guy who does not live conform some manmade rules.

It seems he lived in a house that was not occupied by someone else.

He stayed on a piece on earth that should be free to use for all of us.

He loved herbes that were made by God, with the reason to use them to free our minds.

This is not a criminal.

I was almost agreeing with you until you brought up that 'God' guy from the fairytale stories.

Typically, the majority of people like fairytales.....

I feel sorry for this guy...I really do.

He should have known better but we don't know him

nor why he overstayed his visa. Love perhaps?

Dope perhaps? Both or more? At 45 years old

he simply should have known better. At least

known a cardinal rule for storing your stash;

which is to never keep it in your room. That

tiny bag is an embarassment to both the guy

and the cops who busted him. I hope it all

turns out OK with minimal fuss...but I do have

my druthers about that.

Lesson number 1, don't brag that you are on overstay

Lesson 2, have some handy cash in reserve to buy the buggers off when your so called drinking pals rat u up to save their own arse's.

then againj, he could get bail and await the court proceedings in 5 years or so and he still does not have to to do visa runs....lol

Whatever way you wanna describe it, I don't care. But maybe you should try some of those herbs (or ayahuasca or mushrooms or whatever) yourself and might get another idea, LOL

He looks like a lot of depressed expats. Probably drinking too much, eating crap and not exercising.

Maybe this turns him around. Like hitting rock bottom and getting motivated again to get healthy.

Kind of dismal that they busted him for what sounded like next to no marijuana.

I thought overstay was just a 20,000b max fine.

20 thou baht only if you tell them first or are at the airport out of the country...AND have the money... if you get ratted out and do not have the 20 thou - it's deportation...if american - they check and see if any friends or family can pay the plane ticket, if not you have to pay it back before they issue you a new passport... and they got a big weed bust here I see... all of a couple of joints? no money - then it's fly time....

They went into a house to check for a farang with an invalid visa, well, someone told the authorities he was there and has no visa.

Pretty good deductive reasoning ... and then there was this clue too:

Pol Capt Angkarn Yasanop told The Phuket News the police received information that a British man was living illegally in Kok Chang Mansion in Tai Na Rd, Karon.

The Thai gents look very pleased with themselves. The one on the right is starting to develop pom pui belly , something I'm always hearing about from various sorts of people when I spend time in Thailand. ( Love when the pom pui Thai ladies laugh at me walking by and I turn around and point at their protruded midriff bulge and say "you pom pui , too !! " Man, do they hate that ) But I digress.

5 words say it for me = DON"T DO DRUGS IN THAILAND

Thailand needs its boundaries and reams of rules, ....but does it really?

Before places like this became crammed with people, there were no country boundaries. Borders are man-made.

Ok, I know, we need to be convinced that we need such restrictions, but still, it's refreshing to think outside the box (outside the boundaries) sometimes.

Who resided here before the Thais? (answer: The Malay people)

Who resided here before the Malay people: (answer: monkeys and tigers)

Perhaps we should revert to the original owners of this territory, and ask the monkeys and tigers to set the rules.

Woops, almost forgot, monkeys and tigers have been wiped out.

So you would support 50 million people from around the world moving into Thailand without visas and means to support themselves? Just "living off the things" that others supply?

Never leave your house, someone might move in.

Socialism only works until YOUR money runs out.

Life is tough, living while ignorant is even tougher.

Too bad for him he didn't get caught hoarding Thailand's most harmful drug.

If he had a bottle or two of Johnny Walker, then there would be no drug/dope charges added on.

3 golden rules when overstaying : don't start trouble, don't do anything illegal AND have enough money to get yourself out of the situation

...somebody reported him in, which means he broke number 1

...when being searched he broke number 2

...and then he broke number 3 or we wouldn't be seeing his picture

3 strikes and you're OUT... err... IN detention in this case.

Hardly a criminal of sorts. I say well done my lad now leg it if you can. The wacky backy isnt the big deal its the overstay the cops get shity about. As staying overtime needs extra cash. I wonder about the three buggers behind him... have done worse.
