AOT set to renovate Don Mueang Airport to accommodate passengers

BANGKOK, 24 May 2013 (NNT) - Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) is set to renovate Don Mueang Airport’s Terminal 2 to accommodate the growing number of passengers while accelerating the expansion of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

AOT executives made known that up to 3 billion baht will be spent on the renovation project at Don Mueang Airport in a bid to attract more low-cost airlines. The improvement of Terminal 2 of Don Mueang is aimed at helping reduce congestion at Terminal 1, which will reach full capacity soon.

Since Suvarnabhumi Airport was opened in 2006, only Terminal 1 of Don Mueang has been brought back to service while Terminal 2 has been left unused.

In parallel with the improvement plan for Don Mueang, AOT is also expediting the Phase 2 construction of Suvarnabhumi Airport. After completion of both projects, the capital’s two airports are expected to have the capacity to serve an estimated 87.5 million passengers a year by 2016.

AOT is currently in talks with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to increase the frequency of public buses serving passengers between the two airports. The State Railway of Thailand is also prepared to provide more trains running from Thap Chang and Makkasan Stations to Don Mueang Airport.

It would be good if they finished the BTS rail link to DM. I often have to travel between the airports.

They are actively working on it. We cant post links to other forums but you can search Google for Hopewell Bangkok or some other words like that and read about it. They are testing the concrete and getting the funds together to pay the squatters to move.
