Goodbye From Me

As some of you are aware from my bitching about Overbrook Hospital lately and the big bill that I had I decided to go to the Hospital - SriBurin as Overbrooks Hospitals Dr's couldnt commit to anything that was wrong with me as in my opinion they didnt have a clue.
I went for tests at SriBurin and gave them all the paperwork from Overbrook to look over as well . I was called in today at 9am and given some grave news . I have category 4 cancer and I have to have possible life saving surgery today , if I dont I will die . I was given 30 minutes to compose myself and then gave them permission to operate . The chances of my surviving the operation due to the size of the tumor are slim but the Dr has said he will do what he can. If I do survive the operation then I will have Chemo but he says its possibly doubtful it will help and then there are the secondary cancers that can spread around the body .
So I would just like to say to all of my friends Old and New on this Forum , and other forums and to my personal Thai and Farang friends , thankyou so much for the fun times and for your friendship in the 9 years I have lived here .
I am quite sad that I didnt even have chance to have a party to say goodbye or even to go to my 2nd Home of Jetyod Road to say goodbye to all my lovely lady friends and owners of the bars and restaurants I have used over the years .
I wish you all well for the future and live your lives to the full .
Thankyou so much for being my friends , I think if there is an after life , I will try and remember you all .
Goodbye

As grave as your condition is, I think you have a better chance of coming out of this surgery than they are saying. There are a lot of variables, and it's important that they get all the cancer, if they can, but if they can't they quite often close you up and let you live out your remaining time.

You will have time for your goodbyes and parties. I am pretty sure. But as the Boy Scout motto says: Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

My thoughts are with you.

Sorry to hear it is so advanced.

With early diagnosis, then chemo or radiotherapy,

the chances of survival are much better.

Hope all goes well.

PM me if you want to talk

Tough break buddy, hope the op went well and you're being well taken care of, met a guy called Steve once on JedYod (from Portmouth I think he said), if it was you then I hope I meet you on my next visit too. Good Luck!

I'm sure you don't want complete strangers to read this and start crying...so I'll lie and say that didn't happen.

Needless to say, I really hope the op has gone as well as it can and that you are able to enjoy a decent quality of life for however long, hopefully a long time. Very best wishes.

My grandfather had bowel cancer back in 1975.....his surgeon gave him six months to live.

Well he died in 2004.....at the ripe old age of 84.

Best wishes to you OP....I hope you have many more years of happiness.

Trend Setters, FYI

A friend of mine visited Steve in hospital yesterday and advised

that he was in good spirits.

He has been discharged today and hopefully we will hear some

good news from him soon.

Regards

Will

Good to hear you got through. Gives you some time to make the most of and to sort things out.

I hope things work out. Re the pain killers. I do not think you will get much here even when you come to need them. It is a horrible thought but is it worth a trip back to the UK so that you can have adequate pain management when the time comes that you need it.

I hope things work out. You got past the first hurdle.

Wow what a story. I just can't imagine how I would cope if given that news, so sudden.

So happy you got through the operation and I'm sure your friends at the bar will buy you more than just a beer.

Sit there with your beer, reminisce about old times and always have a smile on your face knowing that there are people out there that you don't know that are thinking of you.

Best wishes.

Hi All

I was going to cut and paste from the other forum , but maybe I would be scolded for a duplicate running or some damn thing tongue.png

Yes, I got through the operation , I have a foot long , rib cage to belly button scar held together with staples. I have to wait for further

testing to be done on what they cut out .

Given the circumstances and your present condition, I am sure no one would scold you. An interesting and cautionary tale which will reach a much larger audience here on ThaiVisa. Please cut and paste at will, just no links.wink.pngsmile.png

Unfortunately the above is pretty correct. Matters can be improved somewhat by seeing a specialist in pain management (of which there are very few in Thailand) and by being an inpatient. Home hospice care as is common in the West, with serious pain killers at home etc, not available here.

Wait for the path report etc but if it is indeed Stage 4 Ca then you would do well to consider this.

I couldn't agree more. Now isn't the time for LOS. In the West there will be as much real pain med as is needed - whatever it takes. When my mother passed the Dr. gave her so much morphine that she was unconscious for the last few days and that was the humanitarian thing to do. The whole family agreed because we knew she was soon leaving us and we couldn't stand to watch her suffer. I wouldn't have wanted her to be anywhere else.

My best to you Steve.

I have to get the news and staples out on Sunday . Thankyou for all your wishes , I am in alot of pain but not suprising considering they have only given me Ibuprofen 400mg and would you believe bloody paracetomol 500mg . I am lucky to have some real pain killers here at home so I will use my back meds to help out.

The multiple tumors wont do well to Chemo according the Dr , and besides after paying another 55,000 bht today , I dread to think what that would cost me , so I think I will give it a miss and just bide my time . Once the big scar I have has mended itself and I am feeling well enough to hit Jetyod, then maybe some of my tight arsed mates can buy me that long long long awaited beer , even if it is the first and last one I will ever get , at least I can go out on a high biggrin.png

Thanks again . I do appreciate all your good wishes and concerns. I will post when I can and keep you updated .

Regards to you all

Sunholidaysun1 (steve ) and yes its me from Portsmouth , if you hadnt already guessed, the secret is out tongue.png

best luck to you Steve

I have only seen and talked to you once or twice Steve but have to say that this really hurt in my heart.

I hope that you will get some good news after the test and next talk whit doc.

I hope to that you will listen to those people who advice you to go home to UK and get what ever you need of care-but I think I know you wont, as Thailand, our familie and friends here are our life, and are not just to leave-at least thats the way I feel.

Hope the best for you Steve.

Hard to know what to say, but I can't just pass this thread by without saying anything.

I never knew you personally, and in truth, we rarely agreed on things here, but you have always been one of the most knowledgeable, entertaining and definitely rememberable guys on this site and I hope that like your previous "goodbye thai visa" thread, this also turns out to be a false alarm.

Best of luck mate.

Sorry about the above post...phone went weird.

I was going to say...don't give up hope yet mate...I was diagnosed with stage 3 and went through chemo and radiation therapy. Last year was rough but I came out the other side and feel ok.

Please keep positive about the whole process.

My thoughts are with you.

All the best.

Mick
