Tours In Kanchanburi

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for tours in Kanchanaburi?

My parents will be in town and they usually prefer no fuss kinda deals, but jam packed so they don't miss anything. My dad is Aussie and a train nut so he will need to do all the war memorials and train rides on offer.... mum will just follow!

I came across the tours run by the River Kwai Resotel and Jungle Rafts, they have a great internet site, but that doesn't always sell me.... has anyone done a tour with these people before?

Try Apple's Guesthouse - they have a travel agency as well with registered guides......great people. Tel: 034 512017. If you are the type who canstay in a chaep guesthouse then you could stay with them. But no air con. But their restaurant does some of the best food in Thailand !! Khun Apple is the cook and can teach as well. Very famous !! Khun Noi is a well known guide and their staff canhelp you with anything you want as far as tours go.

Give them a call and see what they come up with. You should be doing the usual Train over the bridge business out to Namtok - the end of the line. Have a quick lunch at one of the restaurants there...fried rice, noodles etc. the they can arrange a songthaew for you to go to Hellfire Pass War Memorial. You need a good hour to hour and a half to see it all. The Songthaew back into Kanch. If you dont know a songthaew it is a pick up with 2 rows of seating along the sides in the back. If you dont like this style then you cna sit in front. It is local transport...when in rome do as......great fun.

If you need air con rooms in a cheap guesthouse you could try Jolly Frog......dont know the number but maybe it is listed on a website somewhere or Apples guesthouse could help you with a number.

Apples G/H and Jolly Frog are walking distance to one of the main cemeteries as well. Just around the corner. Get the samlor guys in Kanch to take you around for a couple of hours to the bridge - stop for a look and walk across, have a drink and get going, visit the mock up hospital museum, cemetery, old part of town markets etc. Pay them say 250 baht per cyclo, they have nothing so be generous. Apples g/h can help you out to get them. They are alsways around so u can ask other g/h if Apples cant help you.

Outside Kanch you should go to Erawan Waterfalls....really nice during the week with no other people.....on weeekends and public hols forget it....overun with Thai's.... literally....disgraceful stuff. Further afield you could do a side trip overnight in Sangklaburi....nice town on the big lake. Has a nice old wooden bridge running over part of the lake. Can do a boat trip elephant riding etc. There is a nice temple to see on the opposite side of th elake from town. 3 pagodas pass......not much to see but if you want to say you have been there u may as well go as you will never go again.

Good luck
