OldChinaHam
Very beautiful. No matter whether it is Thailand, or China one is thinking about, I have realized that I was too late in arriving. I would far prefer being in Asia 20 years before the outbreak of WWII.

Popular Post PoodMaiDai
Shot in 1919. Wow. Anyone know what year Fanta locked down their place as the official drink of Thai ghosts and Buddha offerings?
joeaverage
im amused by the tone of the narrative, deliciously condescending.
Johpa
Quite the view on the colonial mindset that we can still see here amongst the neo-sahibs that post daily here on ThaiVisa.
ravip
Could this be a derivative of Colonialism? Colonialism is something the 'world' is trying to forget, isn't it? Colonialism - is it REALLY something of the past? - Things hadn't changed much into the 60's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonialism "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" Amazing stuff indeed!!! aboctok
Shot in 1919. Wow. Anyone know what year Fanta locked down their place as the official drink of Thai ghosts and Buddha offerings? I'll have you know, I only clicked the Like button because there was no Double-Like one. Incidentally, the ghosts where I work demonstrate a fierce preference for red Fanta. They like to get together for a soothing beverage, and it's nice to see they have lovely manners and all use straws.
Somtamnication
Fascinating. Heavily staged for the camera, but very interesting. The "wai" was interesting. Fingers pointed outward towards the hostess. Washing of the feet and the servants turning the shoes around for departing guests. Never seen any of this. And they were not Thai-Chinese. The camera must have been huge.
watcharacters
. I don't think I would have enjoyed the lot of being a servant then. But, of course, I wouldn't want such a fate today either. Good find. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us.
