So, Rtwo has access to military cargo movements in open doors Thailand. He passes on the info in a one liner and I don't take him seriously.. Silly me. Markymark
Air freightable "military equipment" is usually designed so that it can be broken down into components, so its transport is not dependent on one type of aircraft. My brother (who worked for many years in the Asian air cargo business) tells me that the usual cargo for this particular aircraft is earth-moving or other civilian construction equipment. briley
When someone says 'military' I tend to shut up and close my eyes. But MarkyMark could have hit on the answer, something to do with the runway extension? Whatever, if the plane comes back look out for it as it is interesting to watch. Diablo Bob
In Afghanistan, the Anatov would land every day loaded with standard shipping containers. These were normally headed to an embassy, who due to security concerns didn't want to wait the normal 21 days trans ocean/overland through Pakistan route. While heavy equipment is a possibility, somewhat doubtful, the cost to transport via the Anatov would be prohibitive, considering that most major earth moving pieces of equipment can be roaded from Bangkok. Most of the required equipment for the "Proposed" runway expansion is already here in Chiangmai anyway. As to why the Anatov landed in Chiangmai, your guess is as good as mine......... Johpa
As to why the Anatov landed in Chiangmai, your guess is as good as mine......... Maybe flowers? High profit items that are usually air freighted to destintion. The flower export business has been growing up in the hills. Fully loaded Anatov at maximum weight with construction or military equipment might be dicey coming or leaving from CNX, but filled with flowers, no problem. Rtwo
How do you know that? So if it landed here before did you see them unloading all this equipment? Not that I really care...but please qualify how you know this I'd like to know too, or was it a first post attention grabber? Markymark
Rtwo may be right. I forgot about the Wing 41 presence of RTAF at CNX. The plane in question is also used for delivery of fighter aircraft. Anyway, as TP says, no big deal. Diablo Bob
rtwo, just being stupid here, but I have a question: Inasmuch as the Thai Military have NO Russian aircraft in their inventory, why do you think they would lease an Anatov, when the have two C-5 Galaxie's on the ramp in Utapao? ThaiPauly
Thats a good question! I find just looking and listening a lot helps and it's best if you don't let them know that you can understand spoken and wriitten Thai until you really have to. I will attempt to find out some about what was onboard and if and when the thing is likely to land again.

briley
No - just the March April storms, the rain is still to come. The difference being storms flood my condo, rain doesn't. And RTWO don't worry about being questioned, some are questioning whether I saw the plane or not. Fortunately my wife saw it as well and agrees with me (but then she always does - NOT). For someone else the Antinov carries cargo from many countries not just Russia. In addition I believe it is from the Ukraine which might or might not be part of Russia these days! They probably spend very little time in the Ukraine at all.As the worlds largest commercial freighters, I think you can be assured that they are indeed large "tramp" aircraft...going where the business is. Maejo Man
Just seen what could be described as a "blast from the past" flying over my place, ex CNX airport. It looked like an old BAC-111/Caravelle. Couldn't make out the airline colours, as it was a little high. Any ideas?
chanchao
Sure it wasn't just an old DC-3? They have a bunch of them around at Wing 41. (Though this one had different colors than the ones usually around)

Maejo Man
Just did a quick web search, and was amazed that so many are still in service in odd corners of the globe. Here's a shot, and it could well have been a BAC-
