Best Dentist in Bangkok ?

Hello Dear Friends

So, I have heard that Asavanant in Thong Lor is good.

They don't however advertize their prices which is odd. I emailed them for prices and they only came back with cleaning prices.

1,400 for professional cleaning

12,000 for whitening at the clinic

All seems a bit pricey to me, especially when compared with one of the best places in Chiang Mai.

What are your thoughts?

Are there better/ equally good but cheaper places in BKK? Is BKK always going to be significantly more than CM?

Thanking you kindly....

I use Asavanant. They're very good. A check up, polish, scrape & clean costs around 2,000 baht. It's professionally done, they're very efficent and everyone speaks good English. Maybe they're not the cheapest, but I want my teeth well looked after.

My dentist, an endodontist (the creme de la creme of dentistry) charges 500 baht for a full ultrasonic cleaning. Done in about 20~30 minutes and of course, a general kind of exam at the same time.

Thanon Samsen in Phra Nakorn

Not the cheapest in town, but having been butchered by several other Thai dentists in Bkk including some who were shockingly incompetent, I recommend The Dental Hospital on Sukhmumvit Soi 49, near Samitivej. Never had a problem there. They have specialists for everything.

Best and most professional with reasonable price in my opinion is Bangkok international dental center (BIDC) next to the emerald hotel on ratchada (din daeng/huai kwang area).

Google them. Very modern and clean facility, English speaking staff.

You can find cheaper clinics but I think this place is worth it.

Thanks - I did as you said and Googled them but it seems to be all horror stories over on Trip Advisor:

What do you reckon?

Hmm well I feel horrible for recommending them if that is the case for serious procedures.

I've only done cleanings and a few cavities filled and they were very good all three times but I guess Thai places can be touch and go. I guess I only recommend their simple procedures then.

If you have more serious procedures perhaps better to use a hospital like Bangkok hospital dental or something then :(

Well, I just went to Asavanant in Thong Lor.

I will NOT be using their services.

Plain and simple - they refused to show me their prices. They are not listed on the website. They would not send them to me in an email. They have nothing printed out at the surgery.

What they told me to do, was stand by the lifts (elevators) and watch a small video screen which has an excruciatingly long video showing all of the dentists they have working there, a tour of the facilities etc, all in Thai. And when that is all over, presumably it begins again in English. She told me in the video they have the prices.

Sorry but I stood there like a lemon for 5 minutes watching this ridiculous video and asked once again for a printed list or even just to tell me the prices. "Watch video" the arrogant receptionist lady told me.

Stuff that - I told them I'd go to another dentist. They didn't care at all.

There is a trend I have noticed in Thailand - once a company or business gets a good reputation, the Thais very quickly become complacent, lazy and arrogant. They no longer put in the effort that made the business thrive in the first place. They are all too quick to rest on their laurels.

Well, here's a bad report plus I'll be updating Trip Advisor as it has been so helpful to me.

Time to visit the Dental Hospital Bangkok where I have read so many good reports about. Let's hope they do better!

That's a shame. I'm sure I saw a price list, although it was over 5 years ago that I first starting using them.

All I can say is that I believe their prices to be competitive with other "top" dentist practices, but certainly not the cheapest. For me though, the quality of the service and dentistry is the key factor and in this I have no complaints about them whatsoever, or in the efficiency of their appointment system and communication.

I have always used Bangkok Smile near Ploenchit BTS. They seem to be targeting their business towards expats and tourists. I have been very happy, but honestly, I have never used them for serious dentistry. Cheap and reasonable services for cleaning and fillings.

Yeah I keep hearing more good than bad about Bangkok Smile.

I went to Bangkok Dental Hospital - it was funny when they started recommending ceramic fillings as I'd read all about their upselling techniques.

However, on asking why, it actually made sense!

A large polymer filling of mine fell out of a molar tooth - it's big - she said the plastic can't withstand the pressure from chewing so ceramic would be better. Makes sense to me! Gold is the best she said but ugly. Make sense too.

But for a smaller filling at the front, she said polymer would be fine. Didn't seem like a rip off.

Check up they suggest on a full 360 degree x-ray (1,000 baht) and 2 local x-rays of the molars (bottom and top) these are 200 baht each so 400. The exam itself is 200 so 1,600 baht in total.

They also give you the 360 x-ray and the 2 close-up x-rays if you ask so I can always take them to a cheaper unit.

The place seemed ok. She identified a cavity I have which is almost eaten through to the root and suggest very quick treatment. I might get it done there. It shows quite obviously on the x-ray.

I think they seem OK.

I had scrape and clean done at Bangkok Smile in Ploenchit. It was a good price and although the rooms look a bit unkempt, the dentists (all female so far) were good and professional and gentle. She told me that as my teeth are sensitive, that I should not have the in-house Zoom "laser" whitening as the peroxide content would be too strong. She suggested a take home kit with a gum mould they make for you.

Saved me 3,000 doing it that way; I like them! Kit seems to be working very well too.

Again, the serious work I am reluctantly going to have done at Bangkok Dental Hospital on Sukhumvit 49 (total cost, 50,000 baht, wow!) but I just want it done right.

This is for drilling out 2 large amalgam fillings from two molars and replacing with ceramic fillings.

Then also a crown and on a pre-molar. This looks like it will cost 20,000 for a high gold content with porcelain cap. Seems a bit OTT for a pre-molar, might just get all Zirconium although price looks the same...

I dunno! All so expensive!

Best in Bangkok is upnthe street from that clinic, Dental Clinic. I think though it is now owned by BKK Smile.

Used by diplomats, Arkady and Sheryl. I stopped using them when cleanings went to 1700b. Im sure the other services were up. Its quality but at a price.

They started pushing bullshi* on me. Not just flouride, but all sorts of Rube Goldbeg crap. Done. 12 years!

Beast of time finding another. Made appt Rachada Dental, could not even find the clinic. Done. Forget.

For whitening you need to have trays made and use gel. UV is just bs.

I like Mission Hospital, though they did a terrible implant on my girlfriend (it fell out). But for cleaning, fillings, etc, I've liked them and have 10 years with them. I supposed they'd be around 600B for a cleaning. I always get my cleaning done with my periodontist, since I've got those problems too, and a visit is around 850B.

1500 baht for a cleaning, that a rip off. As much as expensive then back home... ridiculous.

The normal price would be around 500 baht... for farang. A close thai friend, told me once, that she got a great tooth cleaning at Chula hospitals, 30 minutes works . The dentist will take all the time needed. And do you know how much? Well just for the mere sum of 50 baht, really amazing!

Chula is very cheap, BUT that's because you're getting work done by students. For a tooth extraction I wouldn't want a 19 year old girl with twig arms pulling at my teeth.

Few years ago i wanted to make teeth withening. So i go to the dentist, and there i found a young secretary, around 20 yo, busy with cutting her foot nail.

As the price was interesting, i asked if it can be done today. She answered yes, she can do it now.... I mean its, the young secretary, who gonna do the teeth

withening... I politely decline and leavefacepalm.gif

most thai girls have twig arms and so do many of the guys ,whether 19 or 49 :D

for a big tooth pull it does require a fair bit of muscle but an irish female dentist was able to pull out mine (i was surprised)

theres probably a technique to it if you work in dentistry

My favorite dentists in this world are the BIDC-dentists!

And I like to tell you why:

I know there might be also other good dentists in Bangkok and the BIDC might not be the cheapest choice-

BUT for me its just the best I ever found!

The clinic has the laboratory in the house and can i.e. produce the required crowns on their own-

one can see advantages in this...

They have specialists for every procedure, as I know!

That means experience and I saw it by myself that they know very well how to do their job best!

I am satisfied with yearly checkups since 8years!

I got 2 golden crowns there (ceramic surface) (sory:dont know the enlgish words anymore)

both seem to be just pefect!

I got 2 or 3 fillings there - alsways white and never amalgam in thailand - not like austria butcher-dentists do!

AND nearly no pain in this procedures!!!

They offer painkiller injections and of course they are necessary in certain procedures but I refuse them for fillings always!

I am austrian- I am used to pain in dental treatments!

Never again dental treatment in austria smile.png

recently I got a wisdom tooth extraction and I am very happy to report that I really did not need any painkiller tablet that I got provided by the BIDC for the case of need!

NO PAIN at all- not during the procedure because of the injection and no pain after the injection lost its effect!

Not much bleeding too-

I feel lucky to know the BIDC!

I trust their advice and suggest it to everybody I know!

A dentist who only extracts tooths...

and a dentist who makes only fillings every day- who else could be working more professional/better?

Unfortunatley they raised the prices since my first visit -

but that is a very normal process over 8years and

me austrian I never change my dentist after I finally found a good one!

I got professional dental cleanings too- and I do not think that a cheap cleaning is necessarily same good as BIDC cleaning!

The quality wins the race for me always when it is about the most important health aspekt for me!

A BIDC dentist has has also successfully repaired my front teeth after an austrian Stümper-dentist(fool-dentist) had really harmed it with cutting a slight hole between my front tooths - noone knows what pervert ideas the dentist(woman) had in vienna- crazy-

or: I booked a flight to Bangkok after another austrian dentist refused to make a white filling in the back of my jaws!

Belief me- in the BIDC you are safe!
