New Russian Convenience Center aims to ease language difficulties for tourists

PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s huge Russian population now has its own tourist-assistance center, staffed by native speakers to help visitors needing police assistance and general information.

Banglamung District Chief Sakchai Taengho and Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh were on hand for the privately-run Russian Convenience Center’s July 17 opening in Jomtien.

Owner Illia Miasnikov and Manager Oleg Tarasov said the center was started to act as an intermediary to help Russians communicate with police and to provide Russian-language tourist information.

Miasnikov said the center will be staffed by native Russian speakers as well as Thai officers fluent in Russian.

Now why would Russians be considered more stupid than the rest of the world, and requiring someone to hold their hands?

Chinese people ranking no 1 as visitors in Thailand appear to be considered more autonomous....

Do anybody really think that those two Russians are really going to contribute to society? Naive.

Just look on Illia Miasnikov's face.

Seems like a new way for some dodgy Russian "entrepreneurs" to sell some more gems, tours, condos etc.

"Diamond" - good name for a Convenience Center!

lol

I have a few questions

1. Its privately owned with no business, so who and how would it be paid for?

2. It would be staffed with Russians, and what about WP?

3. Who are the Thai officers who are fluent in Russian? I am yet to meet a Thai officer proficient enough in English, let alone FLUENT in Russian

4. In what language would Russians communicate to Police?

Russian tourists often do not speak English, so it is a good thing they have a place to help them out with legal issues, or even daily problems when language barrier prevents them sort things out on their own. Since there is huge number of Russians visiting Pattaya, isn't it a good thing to have an organization to help them out?

Last month, within the space of 1 week, I was told by two totally independant people that one had gone into a bar on Jomtien for a beer, been asked if he was russian, and when he answered to the negateve he was told to <deleted> off, while the other, having gone into a travel agency also in the Jomtien area, was given exactly the same treatment. It would seem that, during the "cultural" revolution in Russia, anyone and everyone who posessed manners, civility, and any artistic bent, was lined against a wall and disposed of, and the remainder want help ????

Is Pattaya now part of Russia?
