English tourist stabbed in the neck by drunken Thai man in South Pattaya

As for all this BS about Thailand, there is a knife attack in UK every four minutes. I am pretty sure most of the 'victims' are British. You really think Thailand is that much worse?

Funny how I have lived here (Phuket) for 5 years, never been stabbed, never been beaten up, never been chased by crazy moped driver.

I am not saying this guy did anything wrong at all and I wish him a speedy recovery, but stop all this BS that Thailand is SOOOOO dangerous. I still think you are just as likely to find trouble in UK - either because you are drunk and not making the best decisions or you are just unlucky and in the wrong place at the wrong time. Stephen Lawerence mean anything to you lot??? 17 years later and the police still cant bring themselves to admit how wrong they got it.

G

You are a lot lot more likely to find trouble in the UK than Thailand, how many people, tourists or resident can go out and know when to stop drinking, very few I'll bet. Just do not get drunk and mind your own business, and you will be as safe here as in almost any country in the world.

It appears the tourists were minding their own business and no indication that they were drunk. Still got stabbed. It appears the only thing they did wrong was not submit to the Thai's demands.

I think it is a good idea that if any tourist or expat in Thailand is told to drop to the ground and lick the feet of a Thai then you bloody well do as you are told and quickly. What's a little toe jam on your tongue if you keep your life.

Another drunken idiot carrying a weapon, yet another senseless assault committed against a poor innocent tourist by a brainless moron. Another nail in the coffin of the Thai tourism industry, amazing how many nails it can take but one day the final one has to come. This is the 'unique Thainess' they keep on about. I hate to say it but the Thai police should get off their lazy corrupt useless asses and start doing 'stop and search' with a mandatory large fine and night in the cells for anyone found carrying a gun or a knife for their drinking session - weapons don't kill people, drunken stupid a''holes with weapons kill people !.

Lesson learned.

If a drunken Thai man bumps into you and then asks for an apology then apologize.

Better that than getting stabbed in the neck.

I just hope he asks in English.

Better still if you see someone who is obviously drunk walking towards you, then just keep out of his way.

Yeah, where is the finger pointing???? Is this a kinder, gentler police force (not much force, I know). How about a fitness program for the police? Get them out of chairs in comfortable seats and actually go out and walk a beat? I guess they prefer to have trouble look for them....

Brit, Pattaya again!

You obviously have a problem with Brits and or Pattaya and those 3 words in this context make you sound a right <deleted>.

I actually played pool with the guy last Saturday and have met him before.

I feel for the extended family (including his mother) who are also out on holiday.

Wishing him a speedy recovery.

The Brits and Pataya don't mix. They are always getting into trouble there and elsewhere in Thailand, but especially Pattaya. I just believe this and like I said everyday there will be news about a Brit and Pattaya. I hope and wish they will stop acting and doing things to get them into trouble. I feel sorry for this guy but why get into an argument with a drunk Thai. Apologize for the bump and move on. His 50 year old wife was with him so why he let this happen?????

If you see a drunk of any nationality, if it is possible, just keep out of his way, but again, we do not know the full circumstances of this.

While I admit it was difficult in this case, I say again, stay far far away from Thai men in nightlife areas.

This is the best guide. Because many thai women are sometimes very aggressive... not to mention the men. And the police ... first I looked at the picture ... Amazing Thailand. Unfortunately, the true...

"Could happen anywhere"

Exactly, but we should be hearing from those who insist everyone inform the foreign media of the dangers to be found nowhere else but here in Thailand.

There's no shortage of loonies and drunken idiots in any country. Of course, it's even more upsetting when you're on holiday, but if you want to get into an argument with a drunk to save face, a farang obsession, you're asking for trouble.

Once in Japan, I was in the bar district, noticed a wallet behind some guy chatting it up with some girl.

I picked it up, gave it too him.

He turned around, noticed that I was a round eye'd Gaijin and did the "Oh may god! Gaijin actually standing in front of me!" look of shock.

I said in Japanese "Anta wa, yopparai". You're drunk.

Walked away, he kicked me in the back.

We fought it out. He had two more buddies nearby. I fought it out with them as well.

I went to the police box to report it.

They escorted me back, grabbed his ass and had a nice sit down chat back at the box.

Noticed my finger was broken.

Police said I should not have used the word "yopparai" drunk, but the word "Nonda" Drank, as in "Anta wa, Nonda ippai". You drank alot.

Moral of story:

-Use the correct language

-Group mentality. They NEVER fight John Wayne style. Always 3 on 1. (learned that one fast)

-F__k helping people. They suck.

Thailand is becoming the toilet of the world.

Pictures like this, circulating around the world will only show how much hate there is for tourists.

Today I am more disgusted in Thailand than ever before!

Thailand has a lot of questions to answer, if it could be bothered or even give a rats ass !

Dear Mr Angry - please go home, wherever that is, I am sure no one will miss you with your appalling and biased attitude.

Ahh decisions decisions....

1. Bow down and beg forgiveness from the drunken Thai moron who just knocked into you.

2. Or get into a fight with the moron and the 8 Thais standing nearby.

3. Sucker punch the moron who knocked into you, and quickly walk away before the surrounding Thais can become indignant....

Sure it could happen anywhere but more likely in Thailand and Pattaya than most other places.thumbsup.gif

Last week a pack of katoeys beat a farang to death in soi 8 in broad day light apparently after giving the finger to a one of the katoeys as he walked by. There doesn't seem to be a day or week go by without some vicious attack on a foreigner for nothing really.

Welcome to the land of smilescheesy.gif

Really, they beat a guy to death for giving them the finger?!? Wow, thats harsh. There should be a warning on entering the country.

it makes you wonder how many other stories go unreported. frightening.

Yes could have happened in other countries; however, it happened here- in The Land of Smiles, where the locals are supposedly "Non-confrontational..."

What DOES happen in most western countires is that the agressor is brought to justice and receives punishment in proportion to the crime.

Kudos to the locals that gave assistance to the injured tourist.

That hits the nail on the head, 100% agree there is no justice for farang, I have been here six years and never have I seen any justice where a farang is the victim, and this being an accusation society, ie from accusation to court, no police investigation, many many Thais work on scams against farangs getting settlements before it goes to trial, sad sad country.

Post a link to this

I don't have a link and I don't know if the story was even reported in the news.

But it was all the talk from the Thais who work down there and saw it and I have no reason to disbelieve them as they were completely shocked as well.

Sad it did not make the news. Looks like the story is being suppressed....as two attacks on tourists by Thai's within 9 blocks of each at about the same time would definitely raise some eyebrows. I expect the news will be out later, after this story "goes away". These cases have no similarities elsewhere. They seem to be fueled by some kind of resentment against foreign visitors. Its alarming, at the rate of increase. It would not be the same as walking down my street in my town and being stabbed, stomped or shot by a neighbor. The ladyboy attack probably could only have happened in Thailand...it would never get that far elsewhere. When I talk to Thai people (who do not live in places like Pattaya) they almost always discuss foreigners as "those falangs!.. Younger people are learning quickly, and with little discipline, that foreigners are easy targets and that they can get away with quite a lot. Respect for anyone older, especially falangs, has gone the way of the 10 baht beer.Morality is not being taught. Gangs of 12 year old kids blocking roads and extorting money, even up here in Udon. No fear of police or parents.... I do hope it changes for the better. I would say that the credit pinch that many Thai's are just beginning to feel, and the pressure to keep up with the neighbors (new cars and such) is twitching at the brains.
