Me and my Thai girlfriend are looking to book an appointment at this hospital to try and find the root of her acne problem. Any information on :

1) recommended doctor to see

2) costing for the initial consultation

3) any other more cost effective hospitals

Thank you very much for any information given.

What lopburi3 says above is good advice.

First class hospital, with prices to match.

If you are dead set on it, here is the link to the page http://www.bumrungrad.com/en/skin-dermatology-thailand

I've been there twice, once for a small operation ... excellent, but relatively expensive.

The other time, I was surprised by their reaction.

The treatment was available, birthmark removal. The consultant/Doctor took one look at it, shook her head and said, sure, they could help me but I'd be crazy to spend the money it would take due to the number of treatments.

No charge ... so not all places are there to take your money.

Just that there might be cheaper options for you.

Just a small quiet word.

Did you choose Bumrungrad?

If your lady suggested it, it's big face for some Thais to be treated there.

Just trying to be helpful.

Help is appreciated, thank you.

She did not suggest this hospital, she has no idea where to go!!! Hence why I am searching google to try and find someone who specialises in these kind of skin conditions.

This was the first hospital that I see and looked like it ticked all the boxes but I was afraid it would be too expensive. And it is.

Searching for a doctor that is affordable but also knowledgeable in this field.

Thanks to everybody..

Daniel ... welcome to the Forum ... you'll get some great information here.

I did a Google search for you about the subject because we have probably discussed it before.

Click this link ... https://www.google.com.au/search?q=acne+http://www.thaivisa.com+site:www.thaivisa.com&biw=1024&bih=636 ... and it brings up a few previous questions similar to yours which might help with finding the right Clinic for you.

What's really good is when folk like yourself, eventually find a place then come back and tell us what it was like, how much you paid, level of English spoken ... that sort of stuff.

A regular dermatologist (NOT one who specializes in cosmetic derm!) at any hospital will do, this is a very common condition.

I rather like Dr. Parichart at St Louis Hospital and that will be much less costly than Bumrungrad.

http://www.saintlouis.or.th/clinic/clinic_desc.php?dept_id=19

she is there:

Sunday :: 09:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Monday :: 04:00 PM - 07:30 PM
Tuesday :: 01:00 PM - 07:30 PM
Wednesday :: 04:00 PM - 07:30 PM
Thursday :: 01:00 PM - 07:30 PM
Friday :: 04:00 PM - 07:30 PM

Probably under 1,000 baht for the consultation (I think it was 600 when last I saw her, but it's been a while so may have done up). If blood work is required, a few hundred baht more. Then the cost of any medication.

I mention blood work because for severe acne/acne that doesn't respond to other measures sometimes a very potent drug called accutane (isoretinoli) is used and for this, liver function has to be tested. It is also essential not to become pregnant when taking this as it causes birth defects. This treatment takes 4 months but is highly effective, however it is not usually tried first, first they will try simple antibiotics in the tetracycline family along with topical face wash. She may also be advised to change brand of birth control pill if she is on them or to start if she is not (some brands tend to help acne).

To answer my previous post, had to look at google street view to get the name.

The name of the clinic is Rung Rat, the Dr speaks some English, but you aint the one being treated so why worry, let your g/f translate.

There is no double pricing, in fact the doc would be offended if you even mention it.

Intitial visit will be about 500 baht including medication, with follow up visits, he may have to tweak the treatment.

I spent thousands at Asoke skin hospital and another hospital, they didnt have a bloody clue, I got so pissed off I took a photo and sent to my mother ( a nurse) she took one look and told me my problem.

The above clinic had me cured after 3 visits, total cost less than 2,000 baht.

Asoke skin clinic, cost me about 6,000 baht, another hospital cost me about the same, the Dr (?) put a cling film wrap on my back to take a skin swab, etc etc etc.

Be aware, the above clinic is only open from 8-10 in the morning, then from 5 in the evening, the Dr works in a skin hospital at Praphadaeng.

As mentioned by another poster, its about face for some of them, providing you are paying, if they pay themself, you can be sure you wont be led to some overpriced place.

From my own experience as inpatient there I don't recommend Bumrungrad. I had hospitalized there for medical treatment for almost 3 months. During my stays there, I almost died there several times due to neglect of the professional staffs and poor maintenance faciclites or equipments. The medical standard IS NOT up to what they claim to be. The charge for the inpatient room is higher than most hospitals but it doesn't mean that you can expect better quality. In fact, the facilities in the room were broken and almost caused me my life. They overcharged me for several items, especially the doctor fees that they billed me everyday even though the doctor was on his day off and he didn't show up to see me in the patient room. I asked the doctor and what they told me was "It was my fault for not staying in the room when he came by" So unethical!

Ive found in Bumr that they charge Farang more than they will charge a thai lady. ie at the dermatologist for farang is 1500baht. for my thai gf its 900baht.

consider taking Roacutaine but its potent and dangerous- some people suicide whilst on this drug but it clears up the acne 100%

Samitivej - excellent. Expensive yes.

BNH - excellent. Expensive yes.

Asoke Skin Hospital - excellent. Expensive - yes but a little less than above.

Vejthani- excellent and less expensive than the rest and free car pick up service. This is an International hospital at much cheaper rates
