sarathjay
Living in the Chatuchak area, I have been in the malls within a radius of at least 25 km looking for the above mentioned products. No chance! Who can give a tip?
Konini
Mackro for the lentils, several different types/colours. I looked for dessicated coconut for a long time before finding it literally on my doorstep at a small bakery supply shop - the owner doesn't speak English but I tracked it down eventually. He keeps it in the fridge for some reason. Common sense says that fresh grated coconut would be a good substitute and same in amounts used (surely dessicated is nothing more than a substitute for those living in countries without home grown coconuts), but for baking cakes and biscuits the moisture content would be different so I didn't try.

AyG
Villa also sells small bags of desiccated coconut, imported from China. Pricey.
brotherother
Thanks for the feedback. Will go there to get the lentils. Failing that simply search for "Indian spices" in the International and Western food forums. Plenty of suggested places will come up, mainly for Little India (Phahurat) and around Sukhumvit - probably cheaper than Makro as well.
