Jingthing
They have an interesting security policy there. The storage box at the front to leave your valuables like backpacks or shopping from other stores does not offer NUMBERS to match your item to a numbered tag. You're supposed to trust someone is just not going to pick it up, as no number is needed to claim it. Personally, I refuse to use a system like that and have shopped that store holding on to bags from other stores. That isn't an entirely comfortable feeling, because holding bags from outside could be seen as suspicious. Just saying. Be careful! Perhaps this policy has changed but I go there often enough, and that is the situation I have noticed. Maybe they are very busy chasing cheese thieves and can't focus on helping customers with their security needs. HeavyDrinker
Guys, I know this lady K'Siriporn personally and I have to say she is a specially friendly and lovely person. She told me this problem before, Mr. American Czech is not alone farang here who forages her store. I know personally more people from Europe who lives from shoplifting. They steal goods, then try to sale 50%. This works, especially in drink sector, cause bars very enjoy to buy expensive drinks in half price. So we are up set or not, but this is the real life here. case closed then...... Mr. American Czech is not alone farang here who forages her store Maybe suggest to her she employs one of these foragers as security to point out the villains to the store dicks or police...? Might save herself his salary in what the rest pinch in a month? Just an idea....In fairness I don't think either of you have been walloped with the common sense hammer.....
Spare
This is exactly the reason why Thailand should impose VISA requirement on Farangs. And don't forget the compulsory Farang insurance while in Thailand. Not forgetting 500 Baht entry to Thailand tax each time Farang arrive.

shaurene
Give the guy a break, he most likely forgot he even picked it up in the first place. Owner suspected he was stealing but could not catch him ? Sorry but a total drivel, not so hard to check someone daily He was on camera, if he was leaving with it under his arm or in his hand ok give him the benefit of the doubt he obviously never caused a stir by making out he forgot, home you go matey. I used to be a Supermarket manager for Tesco in UK and it was rife I never let them go only if very old and showed some surprise. None of the shit like I'm only a pensioner. Popular Post JSixpack
Once the payoff to the BiB is made and some serious restitution to Khun Siriporn , the old chap will likely be seen on Soi Cowboy looking for a good price on a cold on at one of the entertainment venues. Case closed. No. He lives in PTY (note the article says he was arrested in 2008; as I recall, he was selling a huge load of fake Viagra out of his car trunk) and owns property here. He paid a fortune then to stay out of jail then but didn't learn his lesson about keepin' his nose clean. "Poor Frank" is a joke. He has no defense. Best is quite right to put a stop to his shoplifting and to any other it discovers. I suspect anybody here who worked at Best for a week and had put up with what the staff has to put up with there--the seniles, asylum escapees, drunks, farang cheapskates and indigents, demented Germans and the new hoard of Russians--would not be in a mood to grant any leniency to another shoplifter. moe666
Again lots of opinions on a case that has not even been before a court. The man is clearly INNOCENT until proven otherwise. A photo of a woman pointing at him is proof of nothing. If he was a serial shoplifter as is being suggested then he would (probably) have been thrown out of Thailand years ago. This is not America where you are supposedly innocent until proven guilty but that concept has taken a hit by aggressive prosecutors

razer
If this carries a penalty of anything more than a 500 Baht fine the Thai criminal justice system should come under serious international scrutiny by local embassies. If an attack with a deadly weapon on a tourist (resulting in injury) by a Thai local carries no more than a 500 Baht fine then what justice for stealing goat cheese? I nominate this for possibly the most imbecilic random post of knee jerk dribble I've ever read on here and that really takes some doing....because of course all 'Farangs" come here soley to shoplift and a 500B charge is going to help that issue....how about Blacks, East Asians, Arabs...? <deleted> is complsory "farang' insurance? are you insane...? Have you gone mad? too much Leo on that porch already...? Now pop off and have a lie down in a dark air cooled room, you seem to really need it......
HeavyDrinker
Second offence, could be heading home to the U.S. Lets hope so. We have way too many of this type giving farangs a bad name. what 'type"? How does this bloke give all 'farangs" a bad name? Speak for yourself.... .I'm sure such an upstanding citizen as yourself can be responsible for establishing and maintaining your own 'good name"? if not, then may I respectfully suggest you learn how to do so? Brevity
Is this a real news story? When I read the title I laughed and when I saw the picture of the girl pointing at the man I was sure it was just a joke. There can't really be any news site that reports a shoplifting for 200 baht of goat cheese, can there? But then I started reading the posts and now I'm not sure if everybody is being sarcastic and just making jokes about a spoof story or if it's real. Will someone please tell me if this is a real news story and website. I think it is just a joke, right?

Owner suspected he was stealing but could not catch him ? Sorry but a total drivel, not so hard to check someone daily How do you " check someone daily "? The article says “Khun Siriporn claimed Mr. Janalik had been coming to the Supermarket for a long time and she suspected he had been shoplifting on many occasions but he had yet to be caught-in-the-act. “ Supermarket owners probably get a good sense for what is happening within their own environment. Sounds pretty incriminating to me Suspected, CCTV, Not really difficult. jb1
jimbeam1
It's always pointed out not to point a finger at others in Thailand because it's considered rude and they obviously don't like it. So then why the hell they do it to others if they don't want it to be done to them? And it's not an excuse that they do it to arrested individuals. You said don't do it so don't do it. I like Thais but they are so childish. He should have got up and bitten it. jb1
