webfact
Ban concerned by Thailand protestsUNITED NATIONS, November 27, 2013 (AFP) - UN leader Ban Ki-moon raised fears Wednesday over attempts by Thailand's opposition to bring down the government through worsening street protests.Ban "is concerned by the rising political tensions in Bangkok," said his spokesman Martin Nesirky as protests spread beyond the Thai capital."The secretary-general calls on all sides to exercise the utmost restraint, refrain from the use of violence and to show full respect for the rule of law and human rights."Ban welcomed government assurances "that it will continue to respect the rights of people to hold peaceful demonstrations," said the spokesman."The secretary-general is concerned about reports of government institutions being occupied by the protesters."Opposition demonstrators are seeking to bring down Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra by paralyzing government ministries and staging the biggest street protests since mass rallies in 2010."The secretary-general strongly encourages all concerned to resolve their differences through genuine dialogue and peaceful means," said Nesirky. -- (c) Copyright AFP 2013-11-28
Popular Post AryanicAristocrat
I think what he should be concerned about is the lack of education in this country and the uncontrollable amount of corruption that will one day sink this country into one of these extremely poor African nations.

Pretty much the same thing I was thinking. He needs to be voicing his concern about what led to these protests. In the case of oil rich countries, the UN always voiced concern over the regime and not the protests, so why is Thailand different?.... oh... yep... oil. Popular Post smutcakes
Who gives a toss about Ban Ki Moon. The UN is the most toothless, pathetic organization known to human. These guys walk around on huge packages doing absolutely sweet FA, other than making soundbites about how concerned they are etc etc, when has the UN or BKM ever taken any measure of direct action in any situation? Its complete BS and so is he, a waste of everyone's money.

LuckyLew
Let me Guess Mr Ban Ki-Moon .................. "The UN is carefully monitoring the situation in Thailand and we are deeply concerned about the situation" "We hope for a quick and peaceful solution to this situation with no harm, deaths of bloodshed" Always the same same from the UN .... IMO they are useless and too slow to act if anything major happens
tingtongteesood
He should be more concerned about the megaloamaniacal puppet master fugitive on the run using his minions to try and install his clan in a dictatorship for generations to come and regressing the country 100 years and becoming a lot like North Korea....THIS is far more concerning and the current protests are all that stand in his way, VIVA LA REVOLUTION !!! cup-O-coffee
Of course he is concerned. It is his job to be concerned. Why is that newsworthy? In a few more days, Santa will be checking his list. Why not write a story about that. It has more relevance, and at least Santa inspires people. Is it because Ban-ki-moon seems to think that his armchair quarterback opinion matters, and that two countries anywhere in the world are going to suddenly stop, wide-eyed with their ears flapping, and reverently listen when Ban-ki-moon opens his pie-hole? Not likely.

JoeThePoster
No big surprise there. BKM regurgitates his sentences using the same few words - Gaza, blockade, sanctions, restraint, peaceful, respect, rule-of-law and human-rights.
bigbamboo
No worries, Mr Moon. We are used to these little political playground spats. Happen all the time here. Edited November 28, 2013 by bigbamboo

In general, it's already a glorified version of a "poor African nation". It's a good thing there are plenty of cheap hos bringing in the vast majority of Thailand's GDP. Once the tourism drops, Thailand will become an instant wasteland. The vast majority of Thai citizen are completely oblivious to this reality, solidifying the truth about the outstanding education system.
