webfact Posted November 27, 2013 Share Posted November 27, 2013 Countries issuing Thailand travel warnings now rise to 28BANGKOK: -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand said that five more countries have issued warning to their citizens on travels to Thailand.TAT board chairperson Miss Pensuda Prai-aram said that the latest warning by five countries raised total countries which have issued travel warnings to 28 from earlier 23.The five new countries are Russia, Australia, Ireland, Switzerland and Hong Kong.But she said that warning of these countries were just at Level 2 which means they only advised their citizens to avoid going close to areas where protests are held.She said the TAT has also assessed three assumptions regarding the protests.First she said, if the protest ends by end of this month, tourist arrivals will meet the projected target of 26.1 million people and a projected revenue of 1.17 trillion baht.However the second assumption was that if warning of these countries are raised to Level 5 or prohibiting their citizens to visit Thailand, then tourist arrivals this month will decline instantly by 8-10% with growth of just 7% or 25.5 million tourists, a drop of 650,000 tourists from the projected 13% growth and the expected loss 25 billion baht in revenue.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/countries-issuing-thailand-travel-warnings-now-rise-28/-- Thai PBS 2013-11-28 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

How much it costs to the baht. No mention if the warnings are justified or if any tourists are in danger.Lol Yingluck is fighting for her political life. 100s thousands are protesting, coups are imminent, but tat still at the coal face chasing that bonus. Now that's dedication. Doesn't sound like a perfect holiday to be in the middle of a few hundred of thousand protesters. Maybe it has to happen that countries will go with their warnings to level 4 or five. sydneyjed Posted November 28, 2013 Share Posted November 28, 2013 No travel warning from USA - just a statement to stay away from protest areas and keep an eye on your surroundings.When the US issues a red alert warning and closes its embassy then is the time to heed the warnings...It was after all on the money both times when it closed its doors when the military starting getting serious with the red shirts 3 years back and also warned of a high terrorist warning when the Iranian blew his legs off during the failed taxi attack.Their counter surveillance is usually spot on so if the embassy suddenly closes its doors then's the time to seriously consider ones safety! There is an extremely marked differences between people like expats who are willing to search the world for more interesting destinations and places to live, away from familiar, jobs, protections and insurances and modern tourists. The travelling class are more middle class than ever these days. It doesn't take much to deter a tourist, choosing between destinations, as to whether there is any risk involved in a holiday. More damaging are the news reports on the likes of Yahoo, BBC and other internet sites. People then begin to realise there are problems in Thailand. Now they maybe go to look at their government sites and see the warnings and make a decision on travel. The last 3 days on Yahoo there have been stories of problems in Thailand.
