‘Evil man of Krabi’ eligible for bail during appeal process

It is common procedure to allow bail on appeal depending on the seriousness of the crime. The three alleged murderers in the Krabi Bobby Carter case also got bail although they have not officially been convicted. The bail money does go into the court escrow account and can only be refunded on presentation of the receipt in the bail posters name.

Then strangely enough the couple that got 15 years for picking mushrooms in a state forest cant get bail to appeal. Amazing Thailand

The video was removed from YouTube because the father said that he would remove it after the accused was convicted.

However, I don't think the father would have removed the video so quickly if he knew that the convicted murderer/rapist was going to be given bail....

I thought that once convicted, the appeal process takes place whilst you are still in jail. Only in Thailand can a convicted criminal be released when there is an appeal. Justice does not exist in Thailand, not in the real sense anyway

Sigh... Why do people constantly claim that Thailand is unique in these matters? It is not. Here for example, is a Canadian case where the defendant was granted bail after being convicted of second degree murder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Baltovich. Happens in Ireland too, this time in a rape case: http://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/crime/dangerous-rapist-described-a-threat-2920410. Then there are these Brits appealing assault charges in the Netherlands: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/five-celtic-supporters-handed-jail-2816097. And yes, even in the US (sexual assault): http://www.nj.com/union/index.ssf/2013/08/springfield_doctor_convicted_of_assaulting_medicated_patient_released_on_bail_pending_appeal.html.

I agree this sort of thing shouldn't happen, but it does, and not only in Thailand. So please check your facts before slamming the country...

*sigh* Yet another 'It happens in other countries too' post. Yes, but it is most certainly NOT par for the course as is here. This country, as lovely as it is, HAS no functional judicial system. Lot of laws routinely enforced to shut you up though.

Yes - and you will see other such posts whenever someone self-righteously and mistakenly proclaims 'Only in Thailand...!'.
