With ASIC miners coming online chasing crypto currency is a bit of a fool's errand using commodity hardware. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

could be right if it is your primary objective but for me it would be just backgrounded to other things so no extra cost/outlay only potential gain from unused/excess resources. when i am just playing local or even some online games my computer resources are mostly wasted, this would possibly show a return from that waste..

currently

#wget -4c http://www.smos-linux.org/SMOS-Linux1.2-2GB.zip

is much faster coming down at 1MB/sec

down already 1009M in average 918 KB/s one of the faster big download i have had

something wrong, the torrent refuses to recognise the wget download as any part verifiable.

leaving this for now. something else just occurred to me too. perhaps you need a work permit to mine crytop currencies on you own computer in the background. TIT.

It's not totally free, mining causes CPU/GPU load and it'll show on the electric bill. The "gold rush" is already over.

You can use this to count if it's worth it: http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/

yes something like that is needed but that one outputs nonsense. change nothing but the value of the coins a few times and see for yourself.

I heard someone saying (and please excuse my nativity know nothing about bit coins) that every transaction gets slightly more complicated caused by the algorithm of the bitcoin. Wouldn't this make this currency impossible to handle at a certain point?

  • 6 months later...

a linux miner machine :P cool... but worth only if you work in a datacenter as this datacenter OWNER or top engineer who has access to all servers...  installing a background miner that will use only idle CPU would be awesome... i guess some people already do it.

one of my friends bought a house in Spain for money earned in btc  (btc skyrocketed to 1000$ per 1. couple months ago.  i was stupid to sell my coins when price was 200$ :( though i still earned a lot by buying them for 30$, i could get 5 times more :P ... if only i could know crazy chinese will jump on it and rise the price to 1k$ :D )

no point mining on one or 10 'home pc' and laptops.  dont even try. 1 year of mining will give you maybe 5$. :D lol

only if you have ASICs you can do some $ now.  even older ASICs (that is 10x-20x more effective than best GPU\CPU pc) can't mine enough to cover electricity cost. something like 0.001 btc a day. only new and strong ASIC farms give results.
