Does anyone know if its possible to buy a small router or something which can use a simcard

Idea is to have an alternative access point in office, on travel to hotels (a lot have bad managed internet wifi)

Any ideas?

Cheers

Many of the new smart phones can be used as "personal hotspot". In New Zealand recently I purchased prepaid 3g SIM cards for my IPhone and was able to wirelessly connect Laptop computers (3 at one time). Very straight forward.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Yes there are 3g/4g wifi routers if you're looking for one, but I don't know if and what available in Thailand, using one is actually a good way of saving battery power as WiFi drains a lot less battery comparing to cellular data. The downside is you carry 2 devices and have to remember to charge both, but as was said already, any smartphone can share it's data via mobile hotspot, which is a standard feature on all modern android devices, that's all you'd really need to connect your laptop or WiFi tablet or whatever.

Many branded air-cards and MiFi devices are locked to the service provider here - this is legal and they are often somewhat subsidized (locking phones is not legal here), although you may be able to unlock them.

You'll need a device which supports, minimally, 850/2100 MHz 3G (for TrueMove H); it may not be worth it to get an LTE-compatible device - not sure TrueMove H even offers LTE packages for pre-paid (on 2100 MHz/LTE band 1).

As mentioned, many smartphones can be tethered and/or used to create a WiFi hot-spot, which can share the mobile data connection locally with up to five (5) devices over WiFi.

I have a ZTE MF70 USB Modem router. Works perfectly. Can plug directly into Computer or into a power point and lets 10 computers/tablets/phones connect at same time. Costs around 1800 baht
