Popular Post Jingthing
Congratulations to the happy couple! As far as the legalities of this, I think Coconuts has this a little wrong. Germany does not have full marriage equality for same sex couples. They have something called "registered partnership" which carries many but not ALL of the same rights as opposite sex marriage. and of course a different name for it. Gay rights activists in Germany continue the political fight for FULL marriage equality for same sex couples. The marriage PARTY in Thailand carries no LEGAL meaning in Thailand. As far as the Thai government is concerned, this couple is NOT married and the German legal relationship they have which has legal meaning there has NO legal meaning here. As far as the age difference, 53 - 26 is hardly remarkable or unusual for European - Thai couples, gay or straight. Coconut's assumption that the Thai MAN involved will be playing the role HOUSEWIFE is pretty obnoxious. He is a MAN. Gay couples joining together are TWO MEN. If gay people want to marry a WOMAN, they would do so, without any legal issues anywhere. Edited February 18, 2014 by Jingthing

Jingthing
What a fool. Say no more. If he's very rich, then no big deal. But I agree that big money payment seems foolish on the face of it.

Popular Post Morakot
Coconut's assumption that the Thai MAN involved will be playing the role HOUSEWIFE is pretty obnoxious. ... and some were hoping the press would report on the joyful occasion of two people marring each other, regardless of their gender or sexuality. All that seems "newsworthy" is the price tag, conflated with some heteronormaitive stereotypying about gender roles and lifestyles. Sad, indeed. transam
I thought Sin Sod was a one way street, how on earth was the payment conclusion made ? Surely not cos a farang ''millionaire'' was involved for that conclusion.
Morakot
I thought Sin Sod was a one way street, how on earth was the payment conclusion made ? Surely not cos a farang ''millionaire'' was involved for that conclusion. Apparently, according to Coconuts, it's something to do with "honour" to his family... "Enno decided to give him the Thai traditional wedding of his dream as an honor to his family." What does "honour " here mean? Does anyone know? But if there is any truth to this "honour" thing, what would be the "shame" to his family, if this man were not to receive a Sin Sot? I got married two months ago and didn't get my own Thaivisa topic. Feeling a bit deflated now. But did you pay 1 Million Baht Sinsot? What? A miserable million? A decent guy marrying a Thai lady would give at least three times that and welcome. Would take on a Huge family, all needing help, and be grateful. However, can we hope that despite the Media coverage, they will live happily ever after. This story is just sensation, to sell, make profit. How about the media expose corruption, or something like that - what their job really is?
