wcoast
My rear wheel has a little bit of a blip, not much. Its just vertical in one spot and not horizontality. I felt all the spokes and some rattled a little. I stopped by the local GreenWing but they wanted the bike for 3hrs, I was planning on a little exploring so I had the guy give the wheel a quick tightening up and will go back tomorrow. They have a truing stand and I'm an avid cyclist so I know how important a good truing is. I usually do my own on my road bike. So what should I expect to pay for this fairly minor blip? CharlieH
M/cycle forum may produce better response, just a suggestion http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/forum/117-bikes-in-thailand/ Edited February 24, 2014 by CharlieH

namdocmai
I wouldn't care how much it costs, if it is 50 or 100 baht. More important it is to find a good specialist who can do that. I checked some wheels of brand new motorbikes assembled by Thai and they were not round......mai ben lai....Also my wheels gave me punctures all the time because the lint that covers the spoke-ends was not covering them so well. So better find a good shop and just pay whatever they ask. Changing a motorcycle-tire costs 130 baht (small scooter) including the new innertire to give you an idea about the price. HarleyKrishna
If they only true the wheel without replacing the spokes, rim strip or balancing weights, I would expect to pay three times the hourly labor rate.

wcoast
It ended up costing 60 baht. I bought a new rim, paid 400 for the rim and 60baht for labour. They spent 4 Hrs on it. SGH-I337 abusing Tapatalk Pro

AllanB
When you say a "blip" what do you mean, it is slightly out or the rim is damaged? If the rim is undamaged it should take them minutes and cost peanuts. Seen them do it here in Khon Kaen and they are very good.
papa al
AllanB, Sounds like slightly out: "Its just vertical in one spot and not horizontality. I felt all the spokes and some rattled a little." "It ended up costing 60 baht." If they remove the wheel from bike, and adjust it in the truing jig, then remount wheel, then I guess it would take about 60baht worth of peanuts. Sounds like he upgraded the rim as well, so they re-laced the wheel. Seems like a reasonable charge out for labor. < $2. Probably would run $100+ in Denver. AllanB
I didn't say how many peanuts, here they are 5 baht for a small bag................. I had a folding bicycle wheel done about 5 years ago, it was buckled to buggery ( someone thought the wheel folded as well) and expected a new rim and hoped they had one that would fit. Instead they straightened it out and it was just perfect "proper job" as they say in Somerset.........50 baht...wow! ...and 65 baht to the pound back then.
