Pattaya- Koh Kong - Sihanoukville - Phnom Penh ?

Hi

I have about 6 or 7 days/nights for this, have been to PP, liked it but never to Koh Kong or SKV.

I do not know what would be the best Thai/Cambodia border crossing to use, would it be Ban Hat Lek ?

My idea is to go from Pattaya to Koh Kong in one day, overnight there, then take the ( Lunchtime ? ) bus to Sihanoukville.

I have no idea what Koh Kong is like, if I just turn up there should I be OK for getting somewhere to stay for the night?

SKV to PP seems easy enough by bus, then will have a flight out from there.

Any flaws in this plan ?

Also any suggestions as to where to stay in both Koh Kong & SKV would be appreciated, I like central locations, late night road/street noise not an issue, US $ 20 - 40 a night.

I had and still am considering flying BKK - PP, then return bus to SKV, seems a waste though, might as well do outward journey by road.

Many Thanks

KK is ok for a night.

Many hotels/gh an its not expenive,

bus to SHV, get a room at the the Beach club Resort or Aqua resort on Occheuteal beach ( $25) Both have websites

Plenty of good rests 1 block up from the beach club towards the beach

BTW avoid the Koh Kong Bay Hotel, it may try to claim it's one of the best hotels in town on first appearances, but it's actually an overpriced dump that charges you about US$50 a night (possibly less if you bargain) for a room full of cockroaches, there's no working hot water and the breakfast, whilst OK is too small (there's no buffet). Oh and the swimming pool is quite dirty too. The place next door to it and the one across the road is far cheaper (only $15 a night) has a popular on-site restaurant and looks cleaner too.

Hello,

Can you compare Koh Kong or Sianookville to any Thai beach ?

food price ? accommodation price ?

What do you prefer there ?

And is it possible to fly directly to Sianookville from BKK ? Thanks.

Well, Koh Kong island is pretty nice and the water quite clear. There are few tourists, mostly just young and middle aged westerners from Australia, Europe, North America etc. almost no Asian tourists. Accommodation on the island is rustic, no air-con, no TV, no internet/wifi just a fan and intermittent power. It's basically just you and nature.

Accommodation on the island is a bit overpriced, about US$20+ for very basic bungalows. Food is priced very reasonably, even though it takes 2.5 hours on a boat to get there from the mainland. Meals are about US$3-3.50 for breakfast and up to US$6 for lunch. Irrespective of the currency quoted, they'll take Baht, US$ and Riel, or a combination of these currencies.

I prefer Koh Kong to many Thai beaches mainly because you don't have the crowds. Then again, the Trat coastline (not Koh Chang), anywhere south of Hua Hin to Chumporn and even some of the beaches in Phuket (surprisingly) such as Surin beach, Kamala beach and especially the northern beaches near the bridge are relatively devoid of tourists most of the time. I can handle 10 tourists on a beach at a time but the crowds on Ko Phi Phi for example are just ridiculous, even if it's more beautiful there than Koh Kong.

As Phuketrichard said, no flights from Sihanoukville to BKK at this time but possibly in the not too distant future.

The Transport Company (Thailand) also plans to run bus services from Trat to Sihanoukville via Koh Kong starting fairly soon. Check their website and Facebook page periodically for updates.

I've stayed at the Koh Kong Bay Hotel since twice, both times this year.

It's definitely lifted it's game since last time including lowering their prices. Standard rooms now go for around US$27 or 1000 Baht and are cleaner and better than before. Only thing is that breakfast is not included at the moment (maybe it will resume after they finish the renovations at the back of the hotel and/or get more guests), but apparently very few hotels in Koh Kong have breakfast included.

Hello, do you have the number or Email of any good taxi in Cambodia ? Someone who can pick up guests at Koh kong border please. Thanks.

I'm not sure if you have been already but there are many taxis at the border. Best to bargain with them as is only a short trip. If you have been already as am going next month as am interested in how you went. Want to find a taxi or bus (not minivan) to Sihanoukville or Kampot.

Call M. NAK. He is the best driver that you can find, and lives at the border.

There is an 8.30am bus to S'ville. Only minivans or half size bus S'ville to Kampot that run all thru the day.
