Tanis
As I was packing I heard this ungodly explosion that violently shook my house. The Thais outside were screaming "labird labird" (sorry for my pisspoor transliteration) which means bomb. Some idiot decided to carbomb the police department though they were not aiming to kill anyone. The bomb exploded where the police kept all the impounded motocycles and vehicles. I posted some of the pictures below from my tab.

Stocky
I'm about a kilometer away, I thought it was a blown transformer as all the ups's started beeping and clicking. Then I heard it was a bomb. There was one earlier outside a 7-11 in town, I didn't hear that one but I'm told there are five people injured.
stoneyboy
Aren't you concerned for your personal safety and the safety of your family if that applies I know I would be.
Stocky
Phht. Travelling on Thailand's roads is far more dangerous. No I'm not overly concerned for myself or my family.

Stocky
The one on Ponpichai Road which I think is down near Hat Yai University.
Stocky
Very quiet in Hat Yai city centre tonight. Plenty of extra soldiers at main junctions and a few extra road blocks. The bridge across the railway line on Phetkasem Road is still closed to traffic so you need to use either the underpass on Sripoovanart Road or the bridge at Rattakarn Soi 6. Appreciate any advise on this. Hat Yai is safer today than it was yesterday. Security had gotten lax which is why they managed to plant the bombs yesterday and get away. They've tightened up security again and put many more security personnel out on the streets. I wouldn't cancel your visit.

Appreciate any advise on this. I would imagine that Hatyai will be the safest place in Thailand (or as safe as the authorities can make it) for the next week or so. There are several military checkpoints between Hatyai and the border so you better be prepared to be scrutinized by the local authorities.

Why the argument? Did you see me close this one? I just made a polite post telling you it's in the news section, by all rights this one should be closed & directed to news, I left it open & complimented you. Guys please chill out a bit. recom273
I had a ride about town today, the scene of the police station bomb is "fenced" off with green garden screen. At the old big C and new Tesco's, there were additional security guards with puffed out chests, scooters and cars were given extra superficial checks. The police roadblocks into town were actively manned, but no cars were being stopped. Life back to normal.

Life back to normal. the windows of the police station were completely blown out while the buildings directly behind the impounded (are they the police barracks?) were severely damaged. The immigration was not damaged to much however. Going to the border later today and I will count the number of road blocks I enounter.
