Popular Post gregk0543
Thought I would put down some information for expats living in Myanmar on business visas concerning getting a Myanmar Drivers licence. There is some mention somewhere that you have to have a business visa. I got my first one 3 years ago in 2011 and just renewed that for 5 years. The name of the office for licenses in Myanmar is called Ka Nya Na. For me I took 1. My passport. 2. A copy of my passport and the current visa 3. Photos need to have a blue background. All photo places in Myanmar know this and will do it for you. 4. A letter from my sponsoring company to the Director of Ka Nya Na branch(U Si Mu) requesting them to give me a license for my duties here in Myanmar. 5. My original license from Australia and copy of it too. 6. Currency. In the old days was FEC. But those are gone now. This time they tell you $67 US but when you go to pay they make you pay in Myanmar Kyat so that we guessed at 67000 kyat. ( Everyones happy.) Method for those of you who like adventure. Of course I speak Burmese. Whichever branch you go to always find the Director and go to his office and explain that you want a license or renewal. He or She will check your papers and then write down the price and then then send you off to sub-ordinates who will process through all required steps. First is someone who will give you an application form and may be kind enough to fill it out. (note) This form will need to have your residential address put on it for the back of the license. This can be in either English or Burmese. They will then check all paper work is there then staple it all together and pass to next step. After a few steps like this you get to pay for it at a cashier and then go to another cashier to collect an insurance premium (500 kyat). Then once you have those receipts you bring them back to where you started and they will give you a copy of receipt and tell you to come back at 3.00pm to collect your license. All the signs I saw I think where all in Myanmar language. Just to make it harder for you. Everyone was helpful and they know their routine. They told me they process 300 renewals per day at my branch office. There is some information in English here. DagonKhan
I'd just like to add one very minor point to the excellent info that gregk0543 posted above, and it concerns the office you go to. The local office to where I live wouldn't accept my application, I had to do my renewal at the local office for my Company (i.e. I had to go to the township where the Company has it's registered address). No problems when I went to the correct township.
