Video of Thai police slapping murder-rape suspect causes stir

Let me very clear on this issue. I am totally against anyone taking video of police slapping rapists. It is wrong and I strongly condemn such behavior.

I'm with you. The video should not have been taken and such untoward behavior should be condemned!

for me it looks more like beating on the head, than slapping.

slapping is with an open hand on a skin, this one is violently punching on the back head, so it moves.

surely, a case for an officer dismissal. Firstly, for beating a detainee, secondly for recording it on his mobile and publishing online. Breach of regulations.

defense lawyer might use it in the court case as intimidation

How is it a punch when it's not done with a fist? A strike with a partially open hand was traditionally called a cuff.

To every who wants lynch justice. Maybe you prefer interrogation style like around 200 years ago where it was kind of normally to be tortured and confessions were forced. Think about how many thousands or even millions of people in our history were killed in lynch justice.

I don't want to play down what this man did. But violence ends in violence... the police has no right to torture suspects and humans fought many decades or even centuries for this victory...

That's right. Cops have no right to mete out any punishment. That is for the courts. Innocent until proven guilty or confessed in a court of law. Cops should only respond if threatened. Coward jerk.

Year right!!! That was a pay attention slap if ever I saw one.

If you're going to be a c*** expect to be treated like one.

The police have to deal with this sort of scum everyday and try and keep their cool.

Many police have families and daughters and would happily have put a bullet in this guys head yet he sits there unscathed.

So what's to critisise?

You guys are wired to the moon and have lost touch with reality. You'd think he'd been stoned to death not slapped rouind the earhole for being pig ignorant.

I couldn't care lesss if they sat this guy in a chair and plugged it in to get a confession if it saves the life of another young girl.

It is blatantly obvious this guy is guilty until proven guilty and that must bug the hell out of every policeman who has to deal with the piece of sh!t.

The only stir this video should have caused is people saying hit him again only harder.

What I saw in the video is a helluva long way from Pinochet style interrogation techniques. And as for all the "this could be used in Wanchai's trial by his defense team to get him acquitted" Yeah right in this country and in this current climate NO WAY JOSE and how it appeared to me (and I am not an oversensitive soul nor bury a machete in his head type either) was he was simply given a very enthusiastic clip round the back of the head by a cop, who a long with a few other million people in Thailand, was revolted by the extremity and details of this appalling crime.

Totally pathetic, I got bigger clouts from my teachers as a kid.

So all it has done is give a possible defence of being coerced into a confession . no matter how disgusting the crime if we are going to have a police and court system, then you have to stick to the guidelines set. and let the court rule on the punishment and the police showing impartial treatment collecting and cataloguing the evidence. not beating on people; they should assume all to be innocent until proven guilty. Cant have it both ways, either have that system or let communities deal out there own justice. In principle I prefer the later however it is easily abused by manipulators who will set up the innocent to take the blame for their own bad deeds. That is why we have a court system & Its probably for the best...

Don't see any problem here!!

Except that the guy is just a suspect!

If he's done what they think he's done, he deserves more than a slap or a 25 years behind the bars, but there hasn't been a conviction yet.

He confessed.

Under what circumstances?

Do you at least see the legal problem now?

Another reason why these idiotic re-enactments don't need to occur.

The guy is lower than scum. Do what you like to him, just don't do it in public. Get him to court, death sentence and off you go. Bear in mind, aside from the rape. He murdered someone. Murder in Thailand often carries the death penalty. For a country with such a huge sex and prostiutiton industry to be debating the death penalty for rape is a little odd. I think there are far greater social issues to be solved than executing rapists.

Really ? you must have lived in some rough neighbourhoods, coz I cant think of many things worse than rape and murder particularly when done by a person in a trusted position such as this guy..

I get the anger and the outrage because I feel it as well. This crime (one of many, that just happened to get reported this time) is a national disgrace. What does get me is the TV warriors sat on there sofas furiously typing on their keyboards, swearing death and injury etc.

1, your all talk, faced with having to do something the simple fact that you are human, have a conscience and are not a sociopath, mean you would do nothing. So lets stop with the useless (I am such such a hard man) threats!

2. 'it was just a little slap...' How many of you would be saying that if it was you in a room with the BIB and they gave you just a little slap? Regardless of what you were in there for, it is wrong. Its not their job to be judge, jury and executioner. You all bang on about how corrupt the BIB are, then pat them on the back when they do this??

3. (Although I think this pond life is one of the guilty men) This guy has not been proven guilty of anything yet. DNA takes weeks to process. The guy looks stoned off his head as well. Shall we all go lynch him now, and find out in 4 weeks he was actually innocent?

There is a reason civilized societies have rules, checks and balances. The lynch mob mentality is out of date and reactionary. I don't blame anyone for reacting as this crime is emotive and seriously f*%ked up. However it shouldn't mean we all lose the plot!

The best place for the guilty parties is banged up in a stinking hell hole of a prison (take your pick in this country), where disease is rife, and food is short. Where he cannot sleep or rest due to the fact he is likely to be beaten to death by other prisoners. After a time of living this miserable existence, he will eventually get caught by the 'gen pop' and get whats coming to him. wai2.gif

Am sorry mate, this guy is scum no doubt, but I have to say 'grow up'! Guilty until proven guilty? Its ok for the Police to strike someone because they have families too? Seriously this is an elementary school argument from someone who is so outraged he can't use reasonable thought, or someone who is just plain stupid!

mate, I get pretty riled up because this is how my 14 y/o daughter died in Australia, she was raped and thrown from a train. Sympathy for this type of scum is non existent in me, it may have happened over 20 years ago now but I still know and remember exactly what happened to the piece of sh*t druggie that did it, as do a few police officers. I have no remorse at all, it provided me with a great deal of relief and I do not regret it at all, sometimes action is needed, especially when the ones involved think they have "protection" and will get away with it.

I would much rather they used an iron bar but then I am prejadiced, these animals deserve whatever they get, the worse the better as far as I am concerened, These do gooders have no idea of the pain when your daughter is raped and murdered by scum like this, lets see how forgiving they are when they find their daughter in the same way.mad.gif

What a terrible twist of words. Do you really think that people, all people are not revolted at the this poor girls rape and death? Just because people do not agree with the police smacking a suspect in custody doesn't mean they "forgive" or play down the crime.

It's such an easy thing to do to play on the emotional responses of people when such a terrible crime is committed but you are wrong.

The police work for the people and are paid for by the people and one thing you cannot allow is for an individual police man to decide when it is ok to use violence and when it isn't ok. There are rules and he must do everything by the book. If this man is guilty then justice will come for him anyway, we don't need some stupid plod jepordising the case by videoing an assault of the accused.

Get a grip will you. What that stupid plod did was illegal and he should face the consequences.

read my post above and maybe you will understand why I think this way, maybe when your teenage daughter is raped and murdered you will just want to hug him and give him your forgiveness, I dont and never will. This type of scum deserves death pure and simple, there is no place for anyone that would do this to a young girl in this world, they thrive on causing pain and grief as well as death in others simply to have their thrills, you might think they deserve your sympathy, I dont and would much rather watch them hang.

My heart goes out to you mate. I wouldn't have sympathy for him either. I am not saying the scum who did this does not deserve endless pain and eventual horrible death. I am saying a cop has to be above this. They have to be professional and make a water tight case, that ensures the scum are convicted. I know this is Thailand and they won't care about 'the slap' but why give defense lawyers anything at all to work with? The BIB are paid to arrest suspects and gather evidence. They are not Judges and should not act like it.

I am really sorry this has obviously brought it all back to you and am genuinely not a bleeding heart liberal. Just someone who dislikes keyboard soldiers and wants things done the right way.

Seriously you just can't do that, it's stupid and unprofessional. People saying "well you cant blame the cop if he just heard the guy confess...." really! Would you then say its ok if the case goes to court and is thrown out and the guy walks free, because of that cops actions?

Think I am joking? I'm not, this happens all the time in the US and the UK. The cops have to be above that sort of behaviour and actually apply professional interrogation techniques to get answers. Cases have to be locked down and water tight leaving the scum no room to wriggle out of the charges! Sure we would all like to be in a locked room for an hour or two with this guy. However would we then want to face the family when he walks on a technicality? Yet again this is the BIB showing lack of professionalism, lack of training, and stupidity on then posting it online. I hope the forensic evidence is strong enough to convict without having to reply on ehem....'confessions'

By the way- I fully accept the Thai courts wont care if the confession was under duress'. I still think its wrong though! I am also not a bleeding heart liberal. Trust me his immediate future in prison is going to be a lot worse than what the TV keyboard army would actually do to him!

Be careful of your writings... I could point you to worse beatings done out side of Thailand but where the roads are paved in 'gold'

Just think before accusing others.

This world is not perfect anywhere - some think they are.

That's not what I said.

I am not advocating rape and murder of a young girl. I don't want to hug him and forgive him, he has not got sympathy from me and I don't want him to get away with it if he's guilty. You are doing exactly what i said before, you are rallying support by playing on peoples emotional response to a terrible crime, but you are not thinking this through.

Let me give you another scenario. What would happen if the accused gets off and is set free because his defense lawyer says the confession was beaten out of him and is not admissible in court? Now lets say that he is guilty of this crime and he is now walking free ready to rape and kill someone else's daughter. Will you be patting the policeman on the back then? Would you still be singing the same tune?

The police need to do things by the book. If he is guilty then i hope they get him off the streets, lock him up and leave him to rot in one of Thailands hell hole prisons.

That policeman should face charges, not be supported as it is stupid people like him that could seriously effect the outcome of the case against the accused.

I have just seen your post above, a terrible thing that you have endured and my heart goes out to you. I can't imagine how I would deal with that if it happened to my daughter.

My point is that I don't want people like that to get off and walk free because of a policeman not following the rules, they have to show restraint so these people can be brought to justice.

Try looking at Thai Social Media.

Despite being critical of the BIB in relation to this thread, its unfair to paint them all with the same brush. Hopefully the EDS do not mind the link I am posting here? It is a different perspective on the BIB, and relevant to the thread in as much as it relates to how they operate. Also relevant for any Dads who have sons who may be off to party on the Islands.

Apologies in advance if the link is not allowed Eds?

If he is guilty I hope you're right.

But you or I are not the judge or jury so you cannot say that it is impossible. Public pressure is one thing, a court room is another. Isn't it better that the police show restraint, however hard it may be and be sure that there is no risk of him escaping justice due to a stupid slap recorded on a mobile?

for me it looks more like beating on the head, than slapping.

slapping is with an open hand on a skin, this one is violently punching on the back head, so it moves.

surely, a case for an officer dismissal. Firstly, for beating a detainee, secondly for recording it on his mobile and publishing online. Breach of regulations.

defense lawyer might use it in the court case as intimidation

In my opinion,( alleged) animals like this person who did not respect the law, cannot expect to hide behind the law. The slight tap on the head is a long way from a beating. Please don't talk about breaching regultions. I doubt any amongst us haven't breached a regultion or two on an almost daily basis.

Where do I send the check for the policeman's defense fund? I swear I saw a mosquito on the suspect's head. Multiple times. Darn those insects.

In my opinion,( alleged) animals like this person who did not respect the law, cannot expect to hide behind the law. The slight tap on the head is a long way from a beating. Please don't talk about breaching regultions. I doubt any amongst us haven't breached a regultion or two on an almost daily basis.

They shouldn't be able to hide behind the law but they do and they can, so don't give them the opportunity.

Likewise a person who is employed to enforce the law cannot be shown to ignore it.
