I think the title says it all. You can do better than that. The monotone one is devoid of tonal range due to the resident colours being too complimentary and dropping into the same zone range and as such failing in seperation.

If it's a bokeh test then maybe the inclusion of more background would have been beneficial.

Caveat. This is the evaluation section!

Somehow the bokeh is competing with the image. There is an illusion of motion to it (the bokeh). The subject is lost in the confusion because there is not enough tonal distinction.

It's better in color.

Yup, colour one works. Simply can't get the B&W one to pop.

I wonder if any of these appeal to you.

yes . . i too feel the need to tamper (am i this bored?!) & that a lack of brutal red tones give your original image a sense choking jovial starvation . . .
