First flights from mainland China to Samui

Lucky Air, which is based in southwest China’s Yunnan province, will launch a new service to Koh Samui next week.

Lucky-air-300x187.jpgCommencing on 12 August 2014, the new route will operate three times a week direct from Kunming. Lucky Air will become the first airline to operate this route, and this will be the first direct connection to Samui from mainland China.

Flights will run every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, departing Kunming’s Changshui International Airport at 1215 and arriving at Koh Samui International Airport at 1400. The return service will leave the Thai resort island at 1500 and get back to Kunming at 1845. Lucky Air plans to boost the route to a daily service in future.

The Samui flights will mark Lucky Air’s second international service, following the launch of a weekly flight from Kunming to Singapore via Guiyang in January 2014.

The new route will be operated in tandem with Anke Yunda Air Service, a Tianjin-based tour operator which also operates charter flights from more than 10 Chinese cities to destinations in South Korea, Maldives, Singapore and Cambodia.

Lucky Air is a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines, China’s fourth largest carrier.
