Popular Post webfact
Phuket park officials receive death threats Tanyaluk Sakoot Park Chief Kitipat Tharapiban receives threat.PHUKET: -- Anger at the destruction of illegal restaurants and bars appears to have boiled over with staff of the Sirinart Marine National Park receiving death threats. Park Chief Kitipat Tharapiban told The Phuket News, “My team and I are being very careful after we received a call from an unknown person on Thursday (July 31) warning us that we are all on a gunman’s “kill” list. “This whole issue is about money. But it is not a time for influential people in Phuket to throw their weight around. They must accept what is happening. “I have already informed the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) about this. They have organised it so that the Army and the Navy will join us whenever we carry out a mission [to demolish illegal structures].” A member of his staff who did not want to be named told The Phuket News that he had taken the death threat call. “I got a very brief call from an unidentified man. He said that the names of all my team are on the list. He added, ‘Beware!’. “I asked around and it seems like he is from the Thung-Yai group of assassins from Nakhon Sri Thammarat province. They are apparently armed with M16 assault rifles.” (Thung Yai, or Big Field, is the name of a district in Nakhon Sri Thammarat Province.) “I don’t know what is going to happen to us. We have never encountered these people before.” But he put a brave face on things: “We will do our job honestly for the good of the country.” Capt Petrat Tienjan, deputy director of the Naval Command Division of the Royal Thai Naval Third Fleet, said, “Yes, I heard about this. We are already supporting the Sirinat Park mission. We can also call on the help of special forces based at Phuket International Airport if an emergency situation arises. “I really want to meet the ‘influential’ people who are behind these threats to the Sirinat Park staff. I want to arrest them, take them before a military court and see them thrown in jail.” Source: http://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-park-officials-receive-death-threats-47688.php [pn]2014-08-04[/pn]

iReason
"Anger at the destruction of illegal restaurants…”Imperious arrogance defined. “This whole issue is about money.” “...it seems like he is from the Thung-Yai group of assassins…” You know, those guys that we all know are assassins and we even gave them a territory?Smart move. Don’t put all your assassins in one basket...

Popular Post Jimi007
Just the beginning i fear. Actually it's been going on for far too long, that's why things are like they are. The police and local officials would never stand up to the thugs or the "influential people" hopefully the Army and Navy will! The police and local officials would never stand up to the thugs or the "influential people" hopefully the Army and Navy will! This is why I hope the Army remains on Phuket for a long, long time, and even when a Government is elected, I hope the Army sets up an oversight committee that remains on Phuket. What has happened here in the past, should not be allowed to happen again.

But we would have to be naive to think that whoever is in control would not be tempted by the large number of heavy brown envelopes being offered.

Popular Post JacChang
+1 for attitude. That is the exact attitude needed to stamp out corruption. It's a start, and hoping a model for others to follow soon. This guy is firm on his company goals and mission statement, and while he understands there will be resistance. He has notified the right parties for the protection. That's how it should have been years ago, but always the lack of protection so officials give in to threats. Now hopefully there is a bright change forward.
Emster23
"“We will do our job honestly for the good of the country.” That is a quick way to get on a hit list in Thailand. Alien concept. I was wondering when death threats would start coming.
RigPig
Well I guess it just goes to show the amount of money involved. A decision on whether to take your cut or get bumped off would not be difficult to make if these people are game enough to threaten government officials when we are under martial law.. Maybe this man should be made governor.
Jean Pierre Jacquot
Hahaha.... well first the Park Officials were the ones who closed his eyes for a very nice bakshish and now they are the ones turning on them. Obviously they must be angry about the park officials as they brake their gentlemen agreement.
monkeycountry
They could start by tracing the call. Odds are the guy used his own cell phone to make the threat.
joebrown
There's something not quite right with this story! A member of the Park Chief's staff took the death threat call from an 'unidentified' man. The Park Chief then asked around and it 'seems like' the 'unidentified' man is from a group of known assassins. Surely someone would have to have identified the caller to be able to establish his link with the group of assasins??? Mabe his is just another in the long line of inaccurate 'News Reports'? Oziex1
Known assassins, and they are not in prison! Crooks taking on the Army. I can see in the not too distant future, people of influence and their help will be taken out of the gene pool permanently.
Oziex1
So the nice restaurant owners are showing their true face... ''But if we could regulate them in some way because I like to have my fruit shakes brought to me on the beach'' To those who write comments like my very sarcastic remark above, do you now understand who you are dealing with. You want some of your hard earned going to these people of influence.

MK1
Now that hired guns are trying influence change, better to eliminate the threat of death threats by shutting down the Thalang District Office Administration inclusive of the Cherngtalay Municipality (Or- Bor-Tor) since both these organizations have failed in their role of managing these areas effectively while at the same time having the privilege of impunity. By amalgamating all these districts into one on the island may also eliminate or minimize threat of greed and corruption against those who wish to maintain control over these organizations. Perhaps more so this is just wishful thinking on my part. Edited August 5, 2014 by MK1

EBlair48
Influential people? Like small restauranteurs?
