PHUKET: -- The organisers of Echelon Thailand 2014, which showcases start-up tech businesses with the aim of putting them together with investors and corporates, are looking for entrants from Phuket.

As part of the run-up to the event, a “satellite pitching competition”, Echelon 2014 Phuket Satellite, will be held on Saturday, August 16, at Prince of Songkla University Phuket Campus, in an effort to find Phuket’s most promising start-up.

The organisers, Singapore-based e27, will examine pitches from up to 10 entrants and although the deadline for submissions officially expired on July 25, there are still several slots for the satellite event in Phuket.

Attendance is free of charge. Start-ups can submit entries here (Thai translation here).

Registration for the event takes place at 2pm, followed by an explanation from Mohan Belani, CEO and founder of e27 on “What to expect from Echelon 2014”.

The first five presentations from start-ups will be made from 3 to 4pm. After a break, the other five will get their chance, following which, the judges will announce their decisions, and awards and announcements will be made. From 6pm there will be a networking session.

The judges for the Phuket event will be Amarit Charoenphan of Hubba, e17 co-founder Thaddeus Koh and technology entrepreneur Pawin “Paul” Suthapong.

Satellite sessions are also taking part in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The top five start-ups from the three satellites will have the chance to pitch at Echelon Thailand 2014, and 15 will be able to exhibit at the conference.

This takes place on September 18 and 19 at the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration, at Chulalongkorn University.
