webfact Posted August 13, 2014 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Hua-Hin authorities continue their hunt on restaurants overcharging their customers PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, 13 August 2014 (NNT) - The Hua-Hin Municipality is launching a ‘beach-cleaning’ campaign after tourists have filed petitions saying some restaurants were ripping them off with unexpected food prices. Recently, there has been another case where a 22-year-old Thai tourist from Nonthaburi province and her family filed a complaint to the Hua-Hin Provincial Police about one particular beach restaurant that had been charging exorbitant prices for food. The restaurant was only referred to as “Restaurant No. 12.” According to the woman, her family had to pay up to 7,480 baht for the food ordered. She also said that food prices listed on the restaurant menu were different from the prices that they had to pay. However, the restaurant owner defended that the costs of raw materials involved have been high lately. Police Major General Trithanet Sunthornsuk, the superintendent of the Prachuap Khiri Khan police, concluded that the case is relevant to consumer fraud. He also said there has been evidence showing the food prices were intentionally manipulated. Today, the authorities in Hua-Hin have deployed a group of soldiers to conduct ‘beach-cleaning efforts’ to reorganize the beach area. 66 business operators and restaurant owners would also have their shops and buildings dismantled and would be completely evicted from the beach area. Well then, if this is so, show it on your price board/menus. It's not rocket science. Actually I have seen in many countries the term "market price" meaning it fluctuates therefore is not printed in menus. Typically this applies to items like?? You guessed it... lobsters, which is a typical menu item in Hua Hin. If your want to know how much it costs you must ask. tezzainthailand Posted August 14, 2014 Share Posted August 14, 2014 Buy a Thai beach mat (120-150 baht), pop into a 7/11 and stock up on water, sunscreen, and snacks and head down to Hua Hin beach after 3 p.m. when the worst of the UV and heat has passed. Plenty of room on the beach from the Sofitel all the way to Khao Takiab.These overcharging incidents shouldn't put off anyone coming to Hua Hin. It is these rogue elements on the beach that are doing damage to the reputation of HH. After repeat visits here and now a resident for six weeks the choices for eating are many and very reasonably priced. Places like Moo Seafood (sets up at night in the middle of the night market) are very popular, great food, good prices, as is Mumsabai (a three minute walk from the night market), and I've never had a problem eating at the pier restaurants. A little further away from the centre of town the outdoor food court west of the railway line at soi 88 (five minutes from Tesco-Lotus) is especially good if you are on a budget with dishes from 40-80 baht, and getting very popular with farangs as well as the locals. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
