Phuket hotel ordered shut after gambling raid

PHUKET: -- The Phuket Town Inn, a seven-storey two-star hotel in Phuket Town, was ordered closed indefinitely this morning (August 15) after 27 gamblers were arrested in a meeting room in the hotel last night.

Navy marines and police who arrested the gamblers also seized casino chips and B66,660 in cash in the raid, just before midnight.

Royal Thai Navy Cmdr Pornphrom Sakoltem ordered the hotel to shut down while the management's involvement in the makeshift casino is investigated.

It was the second raid of the night. At 10pm the same task force, acting on a tip-off, raided the house on Soi Ruamjai in Koh Kaew, seizing casino chips and B21,800, and arresting 10 gamblers.

At the hotel 27 gamblers, total cash 66,660 baht = less than 2,500 baht per person

At the house 10 gamblers, total cash 21800 = 2,180 baht per person.

Hardly a bunch of high rollers are they.

Raids do take a bit of time, planning and coordination. From my experience, it's nice to bait the trap long enough so the vermin are lulled into a sense of security. That way, one is more likely to get the small mice as well as the leader rats.

Macau is "controlled" and is a Special Administrative Region of The People's Republic of China, the status of , which is ending soon.

Singapore is a sovereign country.

Thailand, as yet, has opted not to enter that arena for the time being. Their choice not follow, what appears to be, a revenue waterfall perhaps with rocks at the bottom.
