“Self-Strangulation” Student from South Pattaya Nursery dies

PATTAYA: -- The 4 year old child who, it was claimed, strangled himself using a Picnic Mattress Bag, lost his fight for life on Wednesday.

The body of Master Pirapat was taken to the Nong Or Temple in Banglamung where a 3 day Funeral Ceremony began with the ritual of pouring water over the right hand of the deceased body.

As the child’s family come to terms with their loss there is speculation that the child did not strangle himself as first thought. The grandfather of the child, Khun Pasaporn aged 48, claims to have received information that another child twisted the bag handles tight around his neck, as he waited to be picked up from school.

I find it very hard to believe that a 4 yr old child would commit suicide this way. I think this comes back to the school and the lack of supervision.

I don't think anyone has suggested 'suicide'. Just a tragic accident that at the moment we believe he did himself.

Although unsubstantiated the possibility mentioned above that another child was involved makes more sense.

I wonder if there was anybody at the nursery capable of or trained for performing CPR, negligent..

CPR? Does anyone think there is even a remote possibility that these people have been trained in even basic care practices with children. Forget basic CPR and first aid, I doubt the thought of providing training as advanced as this has even crossed any mind. Are these centers even licensed and regulated? I doubt it? Common sense dictates that you don't have any equipment that could possibly harm or kill a child. But TIT where common sense is severely lacking.

Lets not forget the number of children who have simply been left to die in school buses. I doubt very much any training is given or even the term responsibility has a Thai translation. There would be no such thing as CPR and if you needed an ambulance well that could take hours to arrive as no body at all moves out of their way if they are rushing to a life threatening situation.

Try getting any sort of employment in Australia if you don't hold a current first Aid certificate.

Try getting a job in Australia without training of any kind. Almost everything requires some kind of certificate.

But we don't need a uni degree to work at 7Eleven in Australia.

This ought to unleash a feeding frenzy: What the general clash of cultures between Thailand and the so-called developed western nations (frequently lamented by the ethnocentric lip draggers here on TV) can be reduced to is this: Thailand's lack of willingness to adopt the highly idealized, distorted and unsupported stance taken on "sanctity of life" inanely propagated in the west. In the Kingdom, it is simply accepted that life, all life, is expendable or at least easily replaceable, irrespective of whether we like it or not; that its loss, as well as the occasional life altering injury is part and parcel of life in the natural world. Which oddly enough leads to the gradual recognition (except for westerners) that both are equally impossible to realistically hedge against. This would serve as evidence of a measurable degree of common sense that easily surpasses anything in the arbitrary and whimsical west and makes sudden sense out of everything from attitudes concerning construction site and motorbike safety, to attitudes toward food handling and pedestrian rights of way. Not adopting "superior" western thinking has prevented the overly legislated, insurance entangled nightmare we have experienced back "home"; as well as the attendant insurmountable costs now paralyzing even the smallest entrepreneurial ventures in the west, from making life equally implausible here in LOS. To introduce the western concept of "common" sense to Thailand would bring about the death knell to one of the last truly livable places on earth. Rather than transplant stupidity, why not exercise your self-illustrated brand of common sense and just go home? Okay, TV, release the hounds.

Try using paragraphs.

So what you are saying is that it was just a Thai kid and we should not shed a tear or feel emotions for a dead kid/soi dog and should just go home because this is the way it is done and is acceptable in Thailand.

If I write enough to warrant it, I will.

No. Nowhere did I say that. But yes, anyone who chooses to inflict their ethnocentric/egocentric rationale on the Thai, either directly, or safely hidden here on TVF, should consider the personal cost of showboating their ignorance on a public forum. There are a million reasons why things are the way they are in LOS. And comprehension barriers to figuring out what they are can only be overcome with combinations of desire and effort. Those lacking sufficient desire to suspend judgment and expend the considerable effort necessary to put themselves as completely as possible in the shoes of the Thai, owe it to their hosts to remain silent while investigating alternative destinations.

<deleted>...it's called being a human being and caring. Nothing to do with east or west or north or south.
