Fire breaks out at a school in Chaweng



KOH SAMUI: -- On September 4th at 9-45am a fire broke out at the Baan Had Nahm school in Chaweng.

The fire alarm was raised, and four fire control units fire at school in Chaweg arrived on the scene to find hundreds of children and adults fleeing the building.

Plumes of could be seen pouring from a two story wooden building behind the school before the fire spread to adjacent buildings used for grade 6.

Within 20 minutes the blaze was brought under control and there were no reported injuries. According to a television report a 13 year old student saw the fire coming from the rear of the building and raised the alarm.

It is thought the fire started due to an electrical short circuit. The building is reportedly insured for 300,000 baht although and a fire investigation will need to take place before any insurance claims can be awarded.

So, that's what I saw the thick black smoke earlier today.

I was thinking if this isn't a fire, they sure must be burning something weird, like car tires or something.

Saw a fire +-15 years ago in Bang Rak and it took one and a half hour for the first fire truck arrived.

The small house and shack were gone by that time.

Really would like to know what the average arrival time nowadays is.

This fire was under control within 20 min which looks real good to me.

(No body got injured or anything and the most neighbors helped build a new house.)

You areright ikbenhet. And - when they arrived, you had to 'negotiate' a fee for their efforts.

From memory, back then, the only fire trucks were at the airport. If a flight was due, you had to wait until it landed safely????
