He needs a visa and his workplace does not provide him with a work permit. She told him they could get divorced after a year, and that he would be able to keep his Thai residency if during that year of marriage he was behaving well and merging well in the Thai community. I think she is a gold digger who cannot wait to get pregnant and get him stuck. But before accusing her of being a whore and a liar, I ´m checking with my ThaiVisa friends first . scorecard Posted September 9, 2014 Share Posted September 9, 2014 First point - Permanent Residency status for Thailand is not granted to anybody: - Simply on the basis of being married to a Thai person (marriage as a means of gaining PR or even citizenship can be true in some other countries but not Thailand). - Therefore the 'one year' point is redundant. Further: - PR for Thailand can be achieved by: single people, people (male or female) married to a Thai person and a person / couple who are both not Thai. - It is NOT based simply on how many years you have physically been in Thailand. - There is a long and very informative thread at the start of the ThaiVisa website re PR. This thread mentions all the qualifying criteria for PR, note that work permits and payment of taxes over quite a few years are key, plus further items. Please take a look. Also, as in any country, marriages of convenience are illegal, if caught. I suppose 5000thb would have been her pocket money as they would have lived together and he would have had to pay for the rent.... All that, along with a Thai marriage that would allow him to stay in Thailand. I think it is a very good deal!
