This happends every day day in every country, so what is the big news. Except time for thai bashing.

No it doesn't. For example, the incidence of foreign tourists being raped in London, a city of 13 million residents with 15 million tourists visiting each year, is very rare.

Whereas any Western woman who drinks too much on holiday in Thailand is liable to be violently raped - murdered if they resist - by Thai men who can't 'resist their beauty'. And these rapists know that even if the victim has the courage to report the crime if they plead guilty the sentence will be laughably light.

Western embassies have a duty to warn women about the very real dangers in visiting Thailand, which far from being the Land of Smiles is now a lawless, corrupt state with racist mysoginistic attitudes towards Western women and is undeserving of their tourism.

And yet another loser who has never been to thailand thinks he can comment on the topic based on what he read online. Please get a life.

I cannot believe someone would think or do something like that...this guy is an Animal.....

After new year the army open the door for more crime especially in the turist destinations (most money )

I do understand why many waits until they get elected pebble again to se thailand

It's seams clear now that no matter what you and I and thais think about elected politicians they do know better than blindfolded army things there never will be elected

Part of the responsibility for this being able to happen lies with the people behind the still non-functioning transportation system on Phuket.

If they had a proper (not rip-off) transport system all over the island, there would be no reason for a single Russian (or any other nationality including Thai)woman, to have to accept a ride from potential rapists.

This has happened far too many times.

Fix the Taxi / TukTuk & Bus system.

And the thousands of scooter accidents by novice riders renting bikes because of the scum taxi service.

"Somdech told the police, “At first I was just going to take her to the hotel. But I saw she was very drunk, so I decided to take her to my room first so she could rest.

“Once we were in the room, she was very pretty and I could not control my emotions,” he added."

This is what the PM was talking about in his original comment about western women coming to Thailand. Its strange that such a comment is made and filtered back into the press. I just think it is very disturbing.

Poor women, she now has to wait three months to have a HIV test.

The is no excuse for this kind of action, there are no extenuating circumstances with the victim being totally innocent.

Yes in a perfect world women should be able to do what they want without having to worry about predators like this, but this is not a perfect world so when will people accept that women CONNOT walk home alone and drunk???

Why did her boyfriend and friends allow her to walk home alone???

No one asks for this to happen to them but some simple precautions should be taken, take five minutes away from the bar to escort them home, is it too much to ask???

Until people start to think, and start to act responsibly low life like this will continue to surface and wreak havoc on innocent lives...

When people get drunk, their critical thinking abilities wane. She was drunk. He probably had that famous Thai smile which appears so warm and friendly. People might also begin to consider that alcohol consumption is not a cool way to have fun. It should be understand that so much violence, rape, assault and crime happens due to alcohol inebriation. It's time for the world to find a more safe and healthy recreational way to release stress and have fun in social settings.

Thai smile. <deleted>..... did you read the article. He tied her up and raped her!!! And you are trying to blame the fact that she had a drink. Please, get real.

I am unsure as to whether you are replying to my original post or that of me313, irrespective of that I think you have misunderstood the point that was made.

No right thinking person would blame what happened on the fact the female involved "had a drink"

The point being made was that where area's are known tourist area's, all people (and especially females) should take every precaution when travelling back and forth late at night.

If a female is in company and with friends, then it makes simple common sense to make sure they are accompanied when drunk. As I stressed a couple of times it is NOT the females fault that they are raped, it is just blind stupidity that exposes them to the risk. In every city in every country there are sexual predators who will take the opportunity when presented, the secret is not presenting them with an opportunity.

Please pay more attention to the posts before replying, maybe you should try to "get real"

Maybe it does happen in a lot of countries. But they do not keep bleating on how safe it is for tourists and then say they do not nwant their already tarnished false happy slimy smile tourist image damaged.

Then do absolutely nothing when people are caught except a slap on the wrist fine(if Thai that is)

So no need to bash Thais. They seem to be doing a good job themselves.

I cannot believe someone would think or do something like that...this guy is an Animal.....

no, he is not an animal. he is thai. weak. his mentality is thai. weak.

at least he was nice enough to not push her off his balcony.

EVERYONE should think twice before letting a female... in thailand... walk around alone. reminds me of ... say... a prostitute at 2 am.

just because she wasnt asking for "it" doesnt mean someone wasnt looking for "it".

its like me walking around with tons of money hanging out of my pocket, gold chains all up in my junk, studded diamond rings on each finger. I am not asking to get mugged or robbed. but it sure would be stupid of me to walk around alone like this.

i have always enjoyed people drinking because they lower their values/ standards. and then are very easy to take advantage of. i support people spending all their money on alcohol and not saving anything.

if i was a russian i would beat this guy senseless to make an example of him. thats just me though.

And of course Thailand is the only country in the world where people get raped, murdered, mugged, bashed etc.

Your avatar includes the word American so I will assume you are American. Have a quick look at your own country.

Geez, what a nice boyfriend to let her walk home alone @ 2am in a strange country considering the high profile rape/murder that had just happened. What ever happened to being a gentleman and at least made sure she had a way or saw her home. And it does not matter how inebriated he was. This is just wrong.

Are you really that clueless? HIV tests can be done in/on the same day, even in Thailand....

Speaking with a Koh Tao investigator's tongue, this atrocity can't have been performed by a Thai, they simply don't do stuff like this, and "generally" (oh, I love word games) speaking, she most likely was at fault herself, you know - wearing a sexy dress, where you can see her legs and stuff, perhaps even her bikini top was partially exposed for a few seconds when she climbed on the bike... So this all taken into account, the guy must be a Burmese or other foreigner, perhaps Cambodian, and just pretends to be Thai, and the girl should be happy that she isn't charged herself for lewd conduct, perhaps it even was a suicide attempt gone wrong, who knows? :)

Thailaaeeeennnn....

Best advise to young backpackers; stay alert and away from drugs and alcohol if you can't handle it!!!!!!

If you are pretty in Thailand you can be raped...
(Thai or Ferang)

What a nice man. He took her back to her hotel after raping her twice.

He seems so very matter-of-fact about the whole incident.

It does show that working CCTV can be a very effective tool for the police and despite it seeming a relatively straightforward arrest, praise is due to the police on this occasion.

Koh Tao please take note.

firstly i wish as best as possible this lady receives the best medical care possible and access to counselling to help heal from this traumatic experience.

this, among many other, reasons are why i decided to leave thailand with my wife and young daughter. yes it can happen anywhere i understand that. but after living in rural village for many years you hear of the stories from both thai people and foreign NGO workers of the cases of violent sexual assaults against women (and many ladyboys). i was lucky in a way as my wifes parents were very vocal about this issue in their village and were well known for turning in culprits to the police, or worse yet the local protectors of the minicipal district who were far more harsh in handing out punishment. still it is a harsh reality for a large minority of women in thailand.

i would encourage all keyboard warriors to just help keep spreading the word of the dangers and for tourists (and those living in ghailand) to continue to be vigilant in in your awareness.

Jip, firstly, your post is quite rude. Secondly, this victim actually has to wait longer than three months to find out if she has been exposed and infected with HIV. The rapist can be tested today; however, that is not a guarantee that his antibody count is still too low because of recent exposure.

Not to mention the risk to the victim of other STDs.

Strange! He rapes her, then gives her a ride back to her hotel.

Much, much better than the "outcome" in Koh Tao, you not agree?

Or you presume, it cant be rape if she is brought home. blink.png

They had been in Karon, her hotel was in Patong, some kilometers, so what you thought he should have done, throw her out on the road and closed the door, drunk as she was ,bah.gif

The rapist probably thought in his s for brains mind, that it was consensual.

In England and Wales 85.000 women get raped every year, and you say it hardly happens.

That is why he used some kind of arm restraint to help him to do "it".

She was, with a good possibility, more or less helpless in her drunk condition.

To take advantage of that is inexcusable. sad.png
