Heavy rains forecast in the lower half of Thailand this weekend

BANGKOK, 2 October 2014 (NNT)-The Meteorological Department has revealed that several regions of Thailand will experience heavy rains this weekend. This is due to the arrival of a monsoon trough that is going through the Central Plain and is expected to travel down south.


According to the forecast, people living in the central, eastern and southern parts of the country are warned of heavy rains. The southwestern monsoon is also extending across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The sea conditions will not be ideal at this time.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is prepared to respond to any emergency events. Its local offices in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phuket, Songkhla, Surat Thani and Chanthaburi provinces is ready to dispatch rescue teams in the event of mudslides and flash floods.

Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Governor speaks to education staff on moral and ethics

The Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Governor has spoken on the drive of the moral ethics network to education staff at the 3rd region primary education office of Ubon Ratchathani.


Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Governor Serm Chainarong testerday chaired the opening ceremony of the meeting of the moral ethics network of schools in the region 3 of Ubon Ratchathani’s office of primary education.

In his address to the meeting, the governor said the meeting was aimed at promoting moral ethics amongst education administrators and educators in the network of schools. Governor Serm also pointed to progress made in various initiatives taken to promote moral ethics in the region.

He said he was confident all participants would make use of knowledge and experience shared in the meeting towards developing moral and ethical practices, and to enhance the quality of education in the region.

The meeting was attended by 2,160 education administrators and staff.

British ambassador meets police chief

BANGKOK: -- British Ambassador to Thailand Mark Kent met Police Commissioner General Pol Gen Somyos Pumpanmuang Thursday morning to congratulate him for his promotion to become the national police chief.

The British ambassador also inquired about the progress of the investigations into the murders of two British tourists on Koh Tao, Somyos said.

Chiang Mai woman affirms she won lottery tickets in 23 draws consecutively

CHIANG MAI: -- A 62-year-old resident of Chiang Mai affirmed Thursday that she has won lottery tickets in 23 consecutive draws.

The woman, Siwanat Ratdamrongrat denied that she had bought winning lottery tickets after draws to seek publicity as alleged by some people on social networks.

She claimed she bought many tickets at a time so some of them won the prizes.

Koh Tao considers charging and entrance fee for visiting the island

KOH TAO: -- A meeting between tourism operators and local residents of Koh Tao recently took place where a resolve was made to charge and entrance fee for tourists wishing to visit the island. The idea behind a fee would be to use the funds collected to boost security on the island. It was decided at the meeting that the Koh Tao Municipality that a public hearing would be held to decide the cost of the fee.
