george
Songkhla plans underground cables for Hat Yai SONGKHLA: -- Hat Yai, Thailand's bustling commercial centre in the South, will soon be rid of eyesores as a confused tangle of electric power and telecom cables will be moved underground as part of a project to beautify the city's four major thoroughfares in what is seen as a major boost for tourism. Songkhla Governor Somporn Chaibangyang said the terms of reference, along with e-auction procedures for the project, are being drawn up, with 17 companies having so far expressed interest to bid for the project. Bidding for the project is scheduled for September 11 and it is expected that it will take two months to finalise the contract. Implementation of removing the visually unpleasant tangle of cables and moving them underground should take about a year to complete, the governor said. --TNA 2006-07-
