3.5 magnitude quake hits Chiang Rai

BANGKOK, 12 October 2014 (NNT) – A 3.5 magnitude earthquake struck the northern province of Chiang Rai Sunday morning. No damage has been reported.

The Office of Seismology of the Meteorological Department reported that the 3.5 magnitude earthquake took place at Latitude 20.18 degrees north and Longitude 99.57 degrees east with its epicenter five kilometers underground. The quake’s center was at Mae Fa Luang in Chiang Rai. People in the district, Mae Chan and Mae Sai felt the tremors.

Chiang Rai governor Phongsak Wangsamer instructed the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office and local administrative organizations to search for any damages and prepare assistance for the affected people.

3.5-magnitude earthquake happens in Chiang Rai

A 3.5-magnitude earthquake happened in Chiang Rai's Mae Fah Luang district at 4:39 am Sunday, the Meteorological Department reported.

The earthquake could be felt by residents of Mae Chan and Mae Sai districts as well, the department said.

Chiang Rai Governor Pongsak Wangsamer ordered the Chiang Rai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and local administrations to survey damage but so far, no damage has been reported.
