Its the seeds that are the problem with their spikes, forever pulling them out of the tires and fixing the holes in the tubes. But then if I kept on the sealed roads I wouldn't have the problem. Squirt the stuff into your tubes and presto...no more flats caused by things such as those spikey seeds. Also works good against pinch flats. I haven't had a flat in 3 years of using the stuff. Mind you; keep your tires properly inflated or it doesn't work that well. Maxxis also make a great tube that's made of kevlar weave but sadly they're pricey.
