bordercrossing over land

Hi,

Tomorrow i will fly to yangon. My plan is to travel in Myanmar and leave the country over land. After myanmar i'm planning to settle in chiangmai. What is the best route to take? Mae sot? Some people say there are still some borderbyland problems. ..?

Yes, you can come in and go out of Myanmar via Tarchileik which is just across Maesai (Thai border town). From Maesai, you can easily go to Chang Mai. If you need more information, please contact us at [email protected]

yes, but can you travel from from Taunggy to Kengtung? This part used to be closed to foreigners.

After some research i think it will be difficult to take the maesai-borderpoint. Indeed because of the road that is closed. I cannot find any flighttickets and I think if I will this will be too expensive for me.

So... i'm gonna try the mae-sot border... this should be more easy.

Mae Sot-Myawady or Htee Khee-Phu Nam Ron are the best borders.

Full overland travel permitted if using these checkpoints and indeed you have little other choice as there are no airports nearby on the Burmese side - the closest ones would be Mae Sot (Nok Air flies Yangon-Mae Sot daily) or Dawei, from where road travel across to Kanchanaburi is required.
