Fishing phuket

Recommended Posts

Hello all, recently resided to Phuket & being a keen fisherman I will be looking to get involved with fishing out here. I'm not interested in tour company places, just wanna grab my own fishing stuff & head out for some peacefull fishing. I prefer lake/river fishing but don't mind a bit of sea fishing also. Anyone know of any decent places to go & do you need a licence to fish here like back at home?

Also can anyone recommend any decent tackle shops? I live in kathu.

Cheers & happy fishing!!

Hi there, fishing in Phuket is possible; in Rawai, you can hire a long tail boat and go for the day to the sea. If you are interested, let me know! I don't recommend speedboat at all, better use local fishermen who have knowledge of the spots south of Rawai and not too far. We as a group of friend up to 6 people is good, share the cost of the boat.

There's a nice little tackle shop on the crossroad in Kathu but it'll mainly be good for bait and chado lures and line. Not so much rods and reels.

No license required for fishing but I'm afraid your options are quite limited. The sea is very tough. Fished until almost empty. smile.png You can get trips off Chalong. You could find a friend with a boat.

The last time I fished in the wild there were quite a few snakes so I decided to head back for beers. King cobras are scary haha.

You are best treating yourself to a fishing trip in Bangkok etc every couple of months. Domestic flights are dirt cheap. Rod carriage is like 300 baht?
