sgtsabai 1,991
Watch the movie "Sir, No Sir" about the GI movement, confession, I had a very small hand in the movie. Once gave a speech at the Olio Strut in Killean and was arrested. The still pic at the dedication at the end to John Kniffin, my best friend-killed by Agent Orange, is of the Texas 3, I'm the guy in the back. There are many other books, both about the Vets that came home and opposed the war and the GI movement. Quite a few about VVAW. My good friend that was cross border opps out of NPK is another VVAW strong member.
ScarpoFongness4U 306
Seems everyone missed a big part of the war. If you have read several books and watched movies Air America cooperated with the Thais in movement of a lot of drugs from Laos to Thailand. It was a business bigger than Air America. The deceased CIA guys Pat Landry, Jack shirley and Tony Poe were good friends until the died. It was a two way avenue. They are still moving high quantities of drugs through that route. Someone is supplying the islands with their party material for the backpacking crowd, and I saw large quantities of cocaine being snorted by Brits and Australians in the pubs, its not coming in via suitaces its coming in boats
sgtsabai 1,991
This is about Udon and US forces in Thailand, of course that would include the CIA, DEA, FBI, and all the other "initials". With as many agents as there are running around up here and the Chiang Mai etc. area, cocaine is not coming in from Lao or Burma, never were producers anyway. Think South America. Heroin always was the main product coming from Burma and Lao. Afghanistan is back in operation now for that. Yaba the main drug coming across now. Air America is out of business. BTW, loose lips sink ships.
ScarpoFongness4U 306
if this thread read instead, is the US still conducting covert activity from Thailand, would the responses be different? since when does the CIA leave, anywhere?

ScarpoFongness4U 306
Thai at Heart, and others: Thailand has more than just "listening posts if this website is real, on cyber attacks world wide, Thailand is right up there in the top 5, whenever I look at this, and considering this is a country that couldnt do DNA test's in Kao Tao, I doubt this is run by the Thai's http://map.ipviking.com/#

The CIA had a listening post in Khon Kaen airport and university. They staffed it with some interesting guys. ScarpoFongness4U 306
those cyber attacks are coming from sofisticated networks, and aren't likely exposed to the public I would think the CIA has boiler rooms scattered throughout the cuntry for spying on the Chinese and Russians, based in Thailand and Vietnam

If so, wow, just wow.
klikster 422
Udorn Thani Province was not only a big air base but later was the local headquarters of the CIA run by Bill Lear and Pat Landry. Their assistant was Jack Shirley. They moved the headquarters for the local operation from Vientiane for political reasons. I think you mean Bill Lair.
klikster 422
Most, if not all, we think we know about CIA ops during Vietnam came via stories told at Madrid Bar in Patpong. I had a number of conversations with Jack Shirley -- and believed most of what I heard. He was normally good at confirming or denying stories. > One of the more interesting, IMO, was that Tony Poe (who I never had the privilege to meet) went to Tibet to escort the Dali Lama out of the country. > Jack Shirley was the only "civilian" to command a SF "A" Team > Tony Poe returned to the US (San Francisco?) because of a disinheritance threat from his aging mother. Don Mega 9,625
if this thread read instead, is the US still conducting covert activity from Thailand, would the responses be different? since when does the CIA leave, anywhere? look for white Toyota vans with 2 long aluminum ladders mounted to roof racks on top. number plates are blue letters on a white background. look closely at the ladders, you will find camera's.
