namatjira
I was told that many of the farmers have for the last couple of years been switching to corn as a crop, big contracts with big thai companies, the resulting large accumulation of waste to burn off has not helped, and in the future it could well get worse.... They have to realize the economic impacts of this on the Northern economy, from both locals and thais....people just stay home.......not to mention the health problems.. Still its very much mai ben rai for most of the population.......
Chicog
Anyway, I do not think it is our place as short or long term guests to make demands of the local people to change their ways. I know I'd find it pretty annoying if a bunch of foreigners in my own home country started doing that. You're right. It is the Thai government that should be doing something about this serious public health issue. But they are not. Kudos to anyone, Thai or Farang, who calls them out for it.
